| So, ordered some clothes and shoes from LL Bean in the US. Reason was, as a man of ample preportions, it's very difficult to find both clothes and shoes in my size. Yes, a few places in Itaewon but I don't have easy access to Itaewon living in Jeonju. Anyway, the post office has my box which I can pick up tomorrow but I have to pay W74000 (25% of the total value including shipping). I feel like I just got done dry. What a scam/scheme. Anyone else been through this BS? |

Oh yes its quite common. The trick is to have sent to your NA address and have your mumsie open it all and remove the tags and then reship it to you as a personal item with a value of 10$.
Sorry bro, welcome to the world of economic protectionism! |

| Is this a random thing cuz I've had clothes sent from the States, both from legit retailers and from Ebay ones that will mark it as a gift, and I've never had to pay a duty? I would have been really pissed to have had to pay 25% on the two pairs of pants that didn't fit me. |

I've had 4 items of camera equipment shipped from the US, purchased on Ebay, and had to pay duty on 3 of the items. The 4th arrived with no duty charge. All items were in the $300-$650 range. I was required to pay duty of 20% of the total value of each item.
I think it's completely random what you get dinged for. |

| I usually keep my orders under US $100, always US $200, and have never paid customs fees. |

Stepping out with your LLBean clothes on....a wild man in the night....clothed with LLBean....the Korean women will be all OVER you....they dig a man dressed in LLBean attire! You should have invested in a bunch of extra raincoats...if you know what I mean....for all the action you are gonna receive!
Man, dont feel bad about that extra money you gotta pay, ITS LLBEAN!!!!!
Somehow the opening scene of John Travolta walking down the Brooklyn sidewalk in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER came to mind as I read your post. |

| If it's under 100,000 won then you don't have to pay the duty. If it's over, you pay duty on the value PLUS shipping, which sucks. |

If you order something that costs 125,000 won and shipping is 40,000 won, you are liable for a 20-25% duty on 165,000 won. Anything under 150,000 won is ok.

Things do slip through the cracks, however. Imagine that. In the Hub of Asia. |

What makes you think this is a scam?
Are there no imprt duties in USA? Would not something delivered to California attract Californian sales tax? Would that be a scam too? |

At the moment, it depends on the state. Some states charge tax on internet goods, most don't. |
