Hello everyone out there in K-land. The long awaited summer vacation is coming up and I was informed by my head FT this morning that I better purchase my vacation or flights ASAP as 20 million Koreans take the same time off and getting out of Korea will be impossible if you wait any longer.

He told me to email the travel agencies to get quotes on my desired destination and purchase it ASAP if I wanted to take a vacation this summer outside of Korea. I do want to go experience the other exotic flavors of Asia. The problem is I do not know where I want to go as I lack knowledge on traveling Asia outside of Korea. I am looking to spend no more than 1 million won during summer vacation week. I am thinking of saving SE Asia such as Thailand and Cambodia for next winter when my contract is up and I have a month or longer to explore down there.

Any ideas or suggestions on trip itenenaries and facts on getting the most for our Won are most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Short time - Contact Cathay Pacific airline and get one of their visit Hong Kong Now packages. Air and hotel for 3-4 nights run about 600k.

Spend an extra night or 2 and you can pop over to Macau while you are there. It is only a 1 hour ride on the hydrofoil from HongKong.

Between the two places there is enough to keep you entertained for a week and still stay within your budget.

Alternatively you can look at the Philippines. Airfare will run about 600k during the holiday break but expenses down there are next to nothing.

Boracay is fun for a week. Alona beach is great too. Best 2 places within your budget and your time frame. Lots to do.

Hey ttompatz, I just cehcked out Cathay Pacific's website and saw no such deal for Hong Kong. Instead, I was quoted a roundtrip ticket price from Incheon to Hong Kong during the last week of July for a little over 1 million. Expensive!

Yea, it's crazy expensive to get out of Korea on summer vacation as most of the flights for July 28th or 29th seem to be booked and prices are expensive for what's still available. I am going to travel around Korea in Kyeongju, Gangwando, and Seoul for the summer holiday and wait until next January to go outside of Korea. I think it will be a good time to go see the Korean country side and all of what the capital has to explore so long as it's not monsoonal rain weather. I checked prices to get out of Korea next January and they look really good and the weather is most pleasant at that time of the year in SE Asia so I am going on a real vacation then.

Thanks for trying to help.

Call cathay and ask about their "Hong Kong SuperCity Light Package".

The website only goes until June but I read in an e-mail from them that they have (with some flight restrictions) packages available in July and August.

Address Cathay Pacific:
15/F, Seoul City Tower Building,
581 Namdaemoon-ro 5 ga, Seoul
Reservations (02) 311-2800

Edit in...
I just checked the website... on a July 23 departure and Aug 4 return I can get business class for just over 1 million....
