I posted a few links about what seems to me to be a 'surge' in the propaganda element to Korean media recently, but this article is even more demented than the previous two:

Google is apparently evil... Why? because they block searches for certain things in China.
They are also evil for NOT blocking porn pages, and provide 'direct access' to what you're looking for!!! The GOOGLE MUST BE EVIL!!! Direct access to what you're searching for, nothing but a monster would allow for that to happen.
The most relevant paragraph in the story is below:

I hate Korean search engines, full of pop up's, misdirections and even when you go to naver's home page, it wrestles your cursor away from the url window twice before it lets you enter a web address.
Yes! All fear the day that a search engine lets you (gasp!) find exactly what you want without any hassle!

A while ago, a reader told the Chosun Ilbo that the personal information of hundreds of thousands of Koreans was revealed on a Chinese website he accessed through the Google search engine.
Wow...solid source.
Regardless, if you consider the fact that Korea is one of the most wired countries in the world, and people have to use their ID numbers to access most services online, why is it shocking that that info would be easily harvested?
Yeah...blame Google...that's it. |

Although it's not properly labeled as such, this is an op-ed piece. To call it a 'story' is misleading. And the criticism that google is evil was not introduced by the author. This is a common criticism of google. |

Debating whether the piece is an article, a story or an editorial...
As for google being evil, only idiots think that. You have to live in a fantasy world to think that google is 'evil'...
Moreover, the reasons cited for google being evil in this article, other than the china reasons, are all pure korean protectionism. |

All search engines should be banned; they're simply too dangerous.
It's ok for children and adults to witness wicked and heinous streaming violence online though.

I'm not very smart.
But, nonetheless, is it not a salient point? Articles are supposed to be somewhat even-handed, while editorials are for taking sides. As a story, this piece is horribly biased, but as an editorial it's pretty standard.

Well fair enough, but the opinion is still out there. You seem to be taken aback by this word 'evil', so I assume you're not familiar with the background of the story. Google released some guidelines related to their corporate philosophy and one of them was "Don't be evil." Shortly thereafter they announced that they would be censoring words like "democracy" in their chinese search engine. So people called them on the hypocracy, saying it was against their non-evil policy. That's why they're called evil, even though it's a rather harsh word. |
