It has now been fifteen weeks since I started working at a middle schoolin Incheon. My employer is the Incheon Office of Education and as yet I have not received a reinbursement in airfare. There is a formal process you have to go through to get the airfare reinbursement. I was provided with a form for airfare reinbursement on April 25th(my pay day) -11 1/2 weeks into my employment. I filled it out and was told then by my supervisor that it would take about fifteen (business) days. Well, it's now been sixteen business days and I'm still waiting(14 weeks into my employment). I was told by my supervisor today(May 17th) that I will receive it NEXT WEEK(very vague) She was unable to explain to me the reason for the delay. But, I told her in very frank words that the delay was unacceptable to me.

So, I wait ...

Have any of you currently working in public schools in Incheon experiencing a similiar situation? If so, what have you been told about it?

is this your first time in korea? Koreans do not really have the same concern for due dates or other rules of punctuality that we do. if you need the money, i think you should address that, but if the money is not urgently needed, relax, you will get it.

what does your contract say? most likely nothing about that, but check anyways. if this becomes a problem save it as ammunition for later, like if you extend your contract and they offer to repay you for a home leave, remind them how long it took this time and you would appreciate the money up front. or if you later get into some trouble with a due date and they complain, remind them how you were so understanding when they took so long for your airfare and they need to show you the same level of understanding.

it is a governmental program, you WILL get your money, just use this and all opportunities to the most.

The delay is caused by your co-teacher NOT processing the paperwork in a timely fashion.

Be pissed and get pissy about it.

It is your money and there is NO GOOD REASON for the delay other than her laziness or incompetence.

I (any almost everyone else I know) had my/their reimbursement within 10 days for EVERY flight that I/they were entitled to be reimbursed for.
