I hope that is ok...

Now regarding the rest of this thread... I will throw in my two cents. Barring a tragic event of something forced upon you where you have no control or a choice you will get my deepest sympathy.

On the other hand if your not man enough to step up to life and decide to take the chicken sh*t, easy way out I will not have much sympathy for you. Yeah life is hard, but to put your burden on your family and friends like that is just being a coward.. IMHO

flame away...

I'm not following your logic, RACETRAITOR. It wasn't Wrench that started that flame thread, so why ban him after pulling it?

The right thing to do there would have been to hit the red button on the original offending Wrench post and walk away.

If we hit the red button, the post would get deleted, as it was, but Wrench would still be free to post on this board.

When we hit the red button mods are alerted. The post may be pulled, but first mods are alerted. If more people use the red button then moderation can begin to be a process governed, in part, by consensus.

There is a relationship between posters having threads repeatedly pulled and those same posters being either banned or shunned into silence.

I don't think it's a choice of either mob justice or iron-fisted moderation. It's a question of agency and choice. Do you choose to flame-on and browbeat offenders? Or do you hit the red button and let the organic process go through its motions? I prefer the latter because the decision to either hit the button or speak out without flaming is one based on style - and where style can still govern our behavior, freedom exists.

Wrench,
If you have a problem with people who commit suicide don't badmouth them to their friends; go to their grave and yell at them. Nobody else needs to hear that crazy shit.
The people left behind to suffer aren't going to be swayed to your thinking if you're calling their good friend, whom they will never see again, an idiot.

In my opinion, there is a big difference between stating an opinion and basically insulting a person who committed suicide....

Your comment is a lot different than saying something to the effect of "Hey! That's one less moron on the planet."

But that's just my opinion...

What, if someone voices an opinion that doesn't tow the line w/ yours, they should be banned. Why should you all not be banned and wrench be allowed to stay?

I'm waiting...this should be good! Surprised

Because that "opinion" was grossly insulting to another member. Are you going to ban her for having her friend die?

Well, Boo Hooo! Is she gonna keel over and die over it? All I'm saying is that one posters opinion should hold as much credibility as another's...popular or not.

I don't think anyone here thinks or would really want that to happen except yourself. Anyway, wrench is too valuable a commentator in the tech forum... Very Happy

I'm totally fine with Wrench and his opinion. If he had said that to me and none of my close friends had previously commited suicide, I might even agree with him. He hasn't disrepected the dead.

He HAS gone out of this way to be very demeaning and hurtful towards the OP who has just lost a friend. For this alone, I will judge him as the sh#t stain on society that he is.

And yet you blather on and insult the dead to their friends.
IF you don't see how ridiculous that is, you need a headcheck

if i may, i'd like to step in here for a moment and share my thoughts, as it was my friend who died, and i started the thread where all this brouhaha started.
wrench, i did not post here looking for sympathy for my friend. i did not ask for people's views on suicide. i certainly was not interested in starting a flame war.
i posted here looking for sympathy for me. i just lost a friend. i wanted to share that, and get a bit of love. i didn't have anyone to hug last night, no one to talk to in person, so i posted here. i have friends on this board who are my friends in real life, and friends who are online only (thus far). this was my way of reaching out to my friends, en masse, and sharing something awful that had just happened in my life.
i didn't post the reasons for her suicide, as it's not the appropriate place to do so. as well, those reasons weren't relevant to the intent of the post. my thoughts on suicide, and yours, are irrelevant also, had i been told she had died in a car crash or had finally succumbed to cancer, i would have posted a very similar message. would you have responded that you have no sympathy for drivers, pedestrians, passengers, or cancer sufferers?
the cause of death was not the point. the point was that i was feeling really wrecked and needed some compassion and comfort. fortunately, for the most part, i got that in an overwhelming amount. in fact, i am stunned by the outpouring of compassion i have received, both publicly and via pm.
your response was out of line, completely unneccessary and a vile attempt to be hurtful at a time when i was, and still am, feeling very low and fragile. however, i am not so weak as to be upset by the rantings of an angry man with a chip on his shoulder.
well. i have a funeral to attend.
