Anybody else leave this thing early?
Apparently they only prepared for 160 people - and well over 200 showed up. I found it funny that before every meeting, the speakers would ask: "is there anybody here that has already done this OR wants to leave?" Turns out, the reason they were asking is because the hotel was overbooked! So.... everyone on the 8th floor got kicked out - with them giving us a choice to either "leave" or "stay at a love motel"....
Very disorganized. The food was OK. The pasta sauce was terrible .... Sleeping 4 to a room wasn't bad. The lectures were surprisingly incite -full....well, most of them not including the "contract overview" - where people would bring up every little gripe that didn't pertain to anyone else but themselves.
The highlight of the week was definitely on Tuesday morning when the speaker basically told us to take it easy ... because people were apparently passing out all over the resort. Damn waygooks! |

Where the hell did you find internet at La Vidor? I walked around with my laptop and couldn't get a signal anywhere. Anyways, I took today off. Gonna go back tomorrow for the lectures on team teaching and the closing ceremony.
The Training session will only help you if:
1. You have only been in the country for 2 weeks or less.
2. You are the only foreigner in your town and you don't know anyone else in Korea.
For everyone else, its basically a waste of time. They give you a handbook and the lectures follow the handbook practically word for word. I don't even know why they have sign in sheets every morning. What consequences do they have for leaving early? |

Ha ha. Sounds like a repeat of December 2005 "orientation" (more like REHASH). Same place, same problems.. altho Wenise was not the liaison at the time. There's thread on it somewhere around here.. |

Just got back to school. (Had to collect a parcel here).
I actually enjoyed the last lecture - they demo'd some interesting games and a song. Could have done with a lot more of that sort of stuff. |

It was still overbooked even though they kicked out some GEPIKers at the last moment??? Wow... Let's see if moving to NIIED control will help them become a more "professional organization." |

Yeah, it was interesting to say the least. 1st night some dude passed out drunk on the side of the road. 3rd night someone pissed in a bed, and from what I heard there was another guy sleeping in it or something....
Pretty embarassing to be lumped in with those goons, but still worthwhile.
Food = fine
lodging = fine (I had a room at the resort and not the love motels)
lectures = mediocre, but adaptable |

interesting/horrifying to say the least....
so far: interesting, embarassing, scary: next?
But seriously the last two days had good lecturers and interesting ideas, but the whole thing was def. based in the elementary material over the secondary. |

It was GPOE (Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education). |

Evidently 70% of all posters on this board work for the same school district. |

Provincal office - not district.
Considering the fact that almost 50% of the national population is in Gyeonggi province, it is no surprise that many teachers also work for the GPOE. |

I didn't go the last day.
It was the biggest waste of time ever because, apart frim the two native lecturers everything else was...bollocks(the best word I heard all week and sums it up nicely).
Lectures never started on time and when they did start stupid questions never stopped (hi to the guys down the front on the left).
if it wasn't for the solid banter with a few beers the whole week would have been a waste of time (cheers tequila sunrise, kenney evert on speed/wingnut, posco piss-head, and earache).
as a group we did nothing to enhance our reputation. Both organisers and participants should be pretty embarassed.
Hi Elizabeth! |
