As I prepare to flee the country, I'm trying to ship as much as possible home since I'm going to be traveling with a massive dog and don't want a lot of luggage to deal with too.

I have a stash of DVD's that I'm not interested in replacing when I get home. I was going to take them with me in my luggage, but that would require another bag and I'm trying to avoid that since I don't think anything more is going to fit into my parents' van!

Is it a bad idea to ship my DVD's home with the rest of my stuff?

CAn you take DVD's back to America from KOrea. I know that taking back DVD's from some countries is illegal.

Ship it with the rest of your stuff. I did it both ways (Korea - California and vice versa) and had no problems.

Thanks Yaya. I'm only concerned about theft, but it's good to know you didn't have problems. Did you ship surface or air?

I did surface with a shipping company based in Seoul. You'll have gobs of ads for shipping companies in the English dailies in Seoul.

Interesting. I've been sending things by mail since I don't really have that much to send home. Is it more cost effective to ship a small amount (maybe around 5 #5 boxes) with a shipping company?

I think the only way it might matter is if they are knockoffs. I think the possible fine is 5000US apiece. The chance of getting caught? Very slim. Still, when my family moves here in the fall, my collection of 2500 knockoff dvds stay in the Philippines.

My DVD's are all legit (and non-pornographic!), so that's not an issue.

As I said, I'm only concerned about theft. I have a lot of DVD's and I don't want them ripped off by someone along the way.

Due to the FTA, sending pirated DVD's will be a serious crime if caught. It hasn't been ratified yet, so you still have time to mail away!!!

My piece of advice is that you take your DVDs out of their boxes and put them in cd holder cases things.

Not only does it save on space, but it's less obvious you're shipping DVDs.

You may have region code issue when you take them back home.

DVD's with Korean region code (I believe it's 2 or 3) won't play on dvd players in the N.America which are region code 1.

You should check to see if your DVDs are region code free. If not you are SOL when you try to play them back home.

Having lived in Korea for 4 years, I have both region 1 & 3 DVD's. I had a region-free player here & will buy one when I get home (or just play them in my computer).
