The U.S. Census Bureau just came out with a new report. The non-white population in The States is now over 100million. It should seem that might be a reason to be celebrated, but did you watch the Republican debate the other day? All old rich WHITE men talking about the same shit. At least the Democrats provided us a Black, Latino and even a woman.
Also, what about the strategic management tier of Corporate America? I'd be willing to bet it's dominated by rich old white men.
Excuse the mini rant, just wish there was a way to expand opportunities to every segment of our population.
from Reuters:
Quote: |
About one in three U.S. residents is a minority, said Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon.
There are more minorities in this country today than there were people in the United States in 1910. In fact, the minority population in the U.S. is larger than the total population of all but 11 countries (on the planet).

You can't be an American because Americans realize that the Census undercounts minorities. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone in America if they are willing to get an education. |

Willing to get an education does not equal financially able, nor does it mean the school system in their neighborhood is adequate. |

College educations are available through minority scholarships. Visit the US once or twice before bashing the US. |

Hahaha...
And yes, that will help if you went to a crappy school in a crappy district...
Scholarships are a bandage solution to a gapping gunshot wound of a problem...
As long as school are funded based on taxes collected within its district, inequality will continue to occur.
So hurray for the 100 million minorities in America, I somehow seriously doubt they are all getting minority scholarships.... |

It is funny how minorities in the U.S. keep calling themselves minorities.....not citizens. It is an issue because people MAKE it an issue.
As far as financial aid, it IS there. People just have to work for it, and use it. I had no money growing up, and my parents were poor as hell. I got recieved financial aid, and a scholarship for music.......yeah, I had to work for that. And, once I recieved it, I did not phuck around and blow it and lose my financial aid.
"Minorities" in the US want to bitch and moan about what they don't have. How about realizing that it takes work to progress. No, not everyone will make it, and that goes for white folks to. There are millions of white folks out there who dont' recieve proper education, aid, etc.
Enough of this "boo-hoo" crap. If you work hard, and make good chioces, chances are things may work out. If you don't work hard, and don't make good choices, well..........then go ahead and complain, but the governement does not owe anyone anthing with that type of attitude.

I have to agree with dmbfan on this one. I met one of my collegues a few years ago (she lasted a whole term) and I said "so I heard you're an American. Wherre abouts are you from?"
She replied "I'm African American thank you very much!"
I said "no shiat! I didn't notice you were black!"
Usually it's the minorities that make the most of the monority issue. Even if them become the majority, they will insist on being called minority and want special treatment.
Black pride is ok. White pride is racism KKK stuff. Latino day is acceptable. White day is a silly holiday found in Korea. If someone made a 'white day' (same principle as Korea) then it would be termed racist and banned.
Americans need to think of themselves as Americans nto as a bunch of minorities.
You ever hear of an African Canadian? If someone said that back home we'd laugh at them and say "wrong...you're Canadian!" |

Minorities in every Western country pull this. The oppunities are available for everyone, especailly minorities in my experience. The victim card and white oppression gets a bit tired when minorities still dominate prision cells. |

I'm going to have to agree with Alyallen here. After teaching in one of the poorer school districts, I've seen the inequalities. The students will know that they come from a poorer area and won't work as hard, nor feel like there's a good reason to try. Poorer schools need more money to encourage literacy and make up for the skills that the kids are missing.
Definitely, better schooling will help poorer groups. |

In some states, or many states, a schools performance and test scores reflect how much funding they recieve. AND......what does this say about the teaches that are working in these schools?
What was it that Mr. Myiagi said........"There is no such thing as bad student, only bad teacher?" (not reflecting on you).
........perhaps. |

Are you joking? Terms like African-Canadian, Korean-Canadian, Chinese-Canadian are used all the time. |
