Co-worker - "You look nice today. Did you wear the make-up? You look good with the make-up."

Me "What, I didn't look nice yesterday?"

Co-Worker Confused

Me - "Aw, forget it..."

My boss said, 'you are very malleable and compliant', but I think he was being sarcastic. Anyway, I told him to p*ss off.

A "good" compliment? Aren't compliments always good?

Anyway....When I was in Thailand last month, some Thai girl told me I was so handsome, that's why most girls didn't approach me or flirt with me. They just stare.

Laughing Yeah, right

Well, by "good" compliment I meant original or unusual or otherwise noteworthy (Korean-style compliments)... not just someone saying "oh you look nice today."

My fav? "You are more korean than Korean"

I used to get that one alot too, "You are becoming Korean," because I sat on the floor a certain way or used chopsticks well....Haven't heard that in ages, but that's most likely due to the fact I only hang out with other foreigners now.

my principal said that i had a pleasant face (most people think i look like a mixture of:
1) bill murray
2) tom hanks
3) matt maconnehy

how that could be pleasant. mooo la

she also said that my teeth indicated a "good future".
i says what?
and it was translated for me that my crooked, half-stained horizontal teeth were indicating a healthy and prosperous life...

ok.

also got "oooo...teacher" (pointing to eye).
i says what?
she says...teacher...eye
I says...colour? they're blue.
she says...colour no....
(frantic shuffle for dictionary)
i is shown: Fold
she says, "teacher you have thisuh.."
i says yes....

neither made me feel particularly handsome or cute. More, confused and suspicious...

Sure. The short conversation went something like this.

her- " You are very handsome for a black person"
me - "uh...thank you..?"
her- "Your manners are not like normal black people."
me- "Have you ever met any other black people?"
her- "No."

Note: To date she still does not get it.

To the guy who wrote that , you need to get out more...

"You have beautiful eyes"...I get that a lot. I never considered my eyes beautiful back home in the land of blue and hazel eyes. Mine are brown in dimlight and very green in bright light, so I often get this compliment when I'm outside or in the hair salon.

People love to mention my (I have to declare it's very small by western standards) ddong-bae, or pot belly. They call it Sam-gyeop-sal.

I get called Richard Gere a lot too. Wtf?

I've gotten "you handsome" or even "cute" a few times, though I am not either. I've gotten "fat" a lot more though I'm not obese. I've also been called a "genius" because i know English so well! Wink

One of the faculty staff (who happens to speak perfectly good English) turned up to my Adult beginner's class on Tuesday evening and all the other professors suddenly have "very important things to do". The guy offers to buy me dinner as a belated birthday present (last Friday) So I graciously accept.... During dinner he tells me I 'look so good' and he keeps telling me that I am 'so beautiful'. I feel horribly awkward...and then on the drive home he tells me he 'feels like he is falling in love with me' Shocked
