GMail is the best.

-I check several e-mail accounts all through G-Mail;

-I send e-mails under several different accounts with G-Mail;

-I use the filtering system -- which makes life so much easier:
---All my e-mails from account 2 are filtered as "Account 2", account 3, etc.
---All e-mails can have multiple filters (which makes it so much better than folders).

-Google Chat built in.

-And I love all e-mails to/from a person being grouped together so as to not create such a huge list of e-mails clogging up your screen.

...and some other reasons I can't currently think of.

GMail in my opinion is the best free e-mail service around. Google is constantly rolling out new features for it too.

You want to sort Chronologically, then go to your Gmail settings, scroll all the way to the bottom under how much space you're using and you should see:

Gmail view: standard with chat | standard without chat | basic HTML Learn more

There you go. No more grouping conversation style. If you got tips/ideas for gmail, you send them a message and you tell them your beef. Google is a hell of a lot better at listening to their users than other companies.

Maybe it's just me. I don't know what the hell...

Stop registering your e-mail address with porn sites.

No, seriously!

Yeah well, seriously, I haven't Wink (not that I can remember anyway, and I'm no prude either). I mainly just use my gmail address for business/work contacts (i.e. not my everyday friends or making online "registrations"). I think maybe it's just cuz the address itself is kind of simple (just my initials and last name, no numbers) so it attracts spam more easily or something...

Second is the way they're constantly bragging about how much space they give you. Tell me, though, what good is 2 gigs when you can't even get a 30MB file uploaded? Why don't they have a real uploading application with a progress bar and everything? They should at least have the option. Instead, you attach the file and hit send, and then pray that it's uploading. If your upload is interrupted, you're screwed. Annoying.

I'm not completely unhappy with gmail, but the above does piss-me-off. But it's nothing compared to the way my personalized google page is pissing me off. That's a whole other story.

Send that complaint/comment to gmail. They WILL read it.

As for the file attachment size, it'll be a huge headache if they implement it. People will try to send those large attachments to other e-mail providers like hotmail or yahoo who don't support large files.

With increasing file attachment sizes, its one of those things where the major players have to do it together at the same time.

Also, remember GMail is still in the BETA stage. Google isn't satisfied with it yet. They want to make it better before it goes official.

It's possible that someone who had you in their address book downloaded a virus and culled your email address from there. This one guy who works for one of my father's clients did that and inadvertently bombed the whole staff. Everyone was shellshocked with spam.

I see. That could be it. If so, any idea if there's a way to fix that? Or is it that once they get ahold of your address you're screwed and gotta get a new one?...

I think you 're done, unfortunately. Once one of those progs gets ahold of your email address it's all over. It sucks because no matter how careful you are, a mistake from a friend can f up your whole deal.

Well that's tragic. Hotmail has an automatic 'report as junk mail' pop-up that takes care of this kind of thing. I haven't been spammed repeatedly by the same source, ever. But then, I'm also a fan of utilities such as Cyberscrub.

Hmm... yeah that is pretty annoying. On the other hand I'm actually kinda used to it by now Wink - I usually just log in like once a week or so, do a quick scan of the junk list, and if nothing catches my eye, just delete the whole pile at once. I don't think I've accidentally deleted any messages from people I know yet, for some reason their messages usually seem to stand out from the spam crowd (i.e. not in Chinese, or all in capital letters touting me to PICK UP A NEW ROLEX TODAY, or HALF PRICE VIAGRA!! etc.). That's the worst thing about spam: not only is it annoying as hell, but it's as if those morons think making it a chore to delete can compensate for the fact that it's not even remotely convincing Rolling Eyes

Thanks anyway for the advice.

I think the spam filter on Gmail is really good actually. I do not delete them myself, but let them pile up in the spam folder from which Gmail will delete them after one month. So, I get to watch how many spam mails come in. Currently, for one month I have 369 in the spam folder (max so far was 520-something two months ago). My point is, I almost never see spam in my inbox, and never lose email to the spam folder. It is a very clean system.

That's how I pictured G-Mail.

I'm just so used to the hotmail system where first-time emails automatically get sent to the junk folder (where you have to manually add them to your safe list), so I always check it. Do all your new emails get sent automatically to your inbox? I only contact a few people by gmail, but if it were my main address that I give to most people day-to-day I think I'd worry about accidentally deleting their addresses along with the all spam I routinely delete...

In general gmail seems like a good enough system, but I think I still prefer my hotmail account since I only get a couple spam messages in my junk folder per week (as opposed to 100+ with gmail).

The program gets ahold of someone's address book, then distributes all the email addresses in it to various sources. Of course Gmail has a spam button, but when you're getting 3,000 messages from 3,000 different addresses, it becomes a little pointless.
