Either that is the scenario OR she is actually dead and was killed off to kick Clark in the pants to get to Metropolis with Lois.

But why would they do that now if there's going to be a whole other season in Smallville? I could see them doing something like that near the series finale as a way to say, "Ok, here we go, Superman's finally here."

yes and killing off Chloe at the same time will drive Clark and Lois to each other due to grief.

Again, I could kind of see this but only at the end of the series. It's the same as when I said there's more for Clark to explore in Smallville. I thought a bit more about it and realized that the growing I think he needs to do before donning the suit should be done outside of Smallville just like it was in the comics.

I don't think he'll be in Smallville much next season... he'll be too busy fighting Lex's 33.1 army with the JLA... and probably protecting Martha from something or other. There are all kinds of things they can make up to get him out of Smallville and getting used to the idea he has to help the part of mankind that does not reside there.

You're totally right but I thought one of the main principles they had when they set out was to keep it in Smallville, at least most of the time. Remember when the whole show started they said, "no tights, no flights." They've broken the flying deal already and I suppose they could break the Smallville part too but I don't know I guess I just figured that even next season he'll still be in Smallville most of the time but acting the same as he was this season and last season: travelling outside Smallville for very specific reasons but mostly staying close to the farm.

As for Martha, I wonder if her becoming a Senator means she's being written out of the show. I hope not as I really like Annette O'Toole and with John Schneider already gone I think it would be a shame to lose the Kents altogether. O'Toole also gives it a kind of nostalgic continuity, what with her playing Lana in Superman III. I had a crush on her when I was a kid! Laughing

I expect season 7 will be the final season, so things have to start heading in the direction of metropolis...

I just read on Kryptonsite that Martha is gone as of next season but that Jimmy will be joining the regular cast, supposedly. Lana is also apparently going to be around again next season. I'd like for Clark to really get his life in gear next season but I'd also love to see some guest stars like Batman and even Wonder Woman appear for an ep or two (especially considering we've seen Green Arrow, Aquaman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Cyborg).

I doubt that Lana is dead. Remember, this series isn't just about how Clark Kent became Superman; it's also about how Lex Luthor went from from a deeply flawed, psychologically damaged, but ultimately likeable guy, to the arch-villain of the Superman universe. I think that the death of Lana, the love of his life, is what will push him over the edge of sanity and into a life-long hatred of Superman. So, though I think Lana will die, I believe it will come near the very end of the series.

Troll Bait,

That's true that we've got to see Lex become Lex Luthor but at the same time I don't think Lana's death will accomplish it. We've seen him steadily make worse and worse decisions and at this point I think Lana is about the only thing he has in his life. To see her divorce him, to know that she only married him because of Lionel, to know that the man she really wants is Clark will be what drives him to become the Lex Luthor we all know. I don't think her death alone would do it.

I have a little nickname for the most tedious character on Smallville:

"Lana Lame"

She just bores me to death with the constant mooing and sad cow eyes about this, that, and the other thing....episode after episode.

Someone PLEASE put that character out of our misery!

Never was much of a bizzaro fan, but am definitely looking forward to next season.

I'm not much of a fan of Bizarro either, but it is useful that Clark cannot be cloned without mistakes. Otherwise, writers would be introducing Clark clones everytime they ran dry of ideas.

I'm also a bit disappointed with the Phantom Zone villains. Out of all of them, only one of them was a mastermind type -General Zod. Here's to hoping that the data matrix to create Brainiac (the BRAIN InterActive Construct) is still stored somewhere.

But I love her eyes; they're beautiful! She's a vaccination against Yellow Fever!

That reminds me of something that one of my students said to me when I was an intern teacher getting my Education degree (I'm paraphrasing):

"It's hard for you to enforce discipline with those big puppy-dog eyes of yours."

That was before I eventually transformed myself into the terror-inspiring disciplinarian that I am today.

I couldn't agree more. I find just about every scene Lana is in pretty boring. I think they should kill her off. It's a good thing that she's great to look at because that's about the only interesting thing about her character. Man, I'm loving how evil Lex has become this season. He's taken it to a whole new level. I think Michael Rosenbaum's done a great job in that role. I think next season will be the last. I also agee with the other posters in that next season will be the transition year to Superman. I think Lana will be killed off next year (thank God!). I'm really hoping they don't kill off Chloe........I really like Chloe.

The only problem with killing off Lana is that she's a very tangible and long-standing character within the mythos. Whether you like her or not, and yes I will admit that they've made her rather sappy, she's still someone who is a big part of the mythology for better or worse. Chloe isn't even remotely included in the mythology and so she may be one of the characters we see get offed before the big series finale. I kind of hope that next year isn't the last year but is instead a deeper exploration of the Kryptonian side of Clark leading into an eighth season where Clark fully comes to terms with his Kryptonian heritage and starts to take on a more global role.

Like I said before, I'm a lover of the whole Superman story. I'm actually just finishing up the comics from 2005 and should be done up to 2007 soon. I downloaded all the comics from 1986 all the way to now and out of all the main series titles I'm only missing half of the old Man of Tomorrow series. I've read all of the comics including Superboy, Steel, Supergirl and some of the mini-series' (though not all!) and I've got to say that Lana is a strong recurring character. She shows up off and on throughout and continues to play a big role in Clark's life. For that reason, her continued and some would say important role in the comics, I don't think they will kill Lana off. I think Clark will realize either next season or in season eight or whenever that his love for Lana is holding him back from the world and that will be the catalyst for the final episode: Clark letting go of Smallville and realizing that the world needs a Superman.

I love the show and I'd love to see it continue past next season but I have some doubts about that happening. It seems to me that Clark has already explored a lot of his Kryptonian heritage. He certainly hasn't embraced it but I think that will come next season. Also, the writers seem to be laying the path for the transition next season. It looks like Clark will (somehow) lose Lana for good and Martha Kent is, more or less, out of the picture now. Also, Lex is going past the point of salvation now. Even if they do wrap it up next year, I agree that the producers will come up with a new concept (show). I love the JLA idea! It would be great if they went that way.
