I need urgent information on how to get my sealed transcripts from a university in South Africa. As you all know the whole university system was totally reshuffled a few years ago. I got my degree before the great shuffle. Now the university I got my degree from no longer exists by that name. It is now part of the University of Limpopo and they don't seem very willing to help me. Any thoughts on this???
Also, if you are still in the planning stages of coming to South Korea to teach, DON'T let a recruiter or anyone talk you into coming over and start working without your E2 visa. Another good idea is to read the South African Embassy in South Korea's webpage before you make a final decision. I didn't do these things and am now paying the price.
This morning I also ran into another Saffie who was brought over with a NDip!!!! Now he can't get the E2 visa he needs to work legally and he has been fined about R20 000.00 by Immigration and has to pay for his flight back. If he doesn't pay the fine, he will be placed in a detention centre until he can pay for his own deportation. He will also be blacklisted. How true his story is, I can't say, but I have good reason to believe him.
So please make sure you have everything you need BEFORE coming out here.

Posts like these make me thankful I am Canadian. Our Universities are solid. Our government (for the most part) is respected. Our embassies help out.

I would be ashamed if Canadians were flying in foreigners, making them work illegally, stealing their belongings, not paying them, leaving them high and dry.

Im going to ANSAN and i ve done all the basics.
I went to the embassy to notarise my documents.Furthermore, I sent my documents away already...hehehhe....

Well, I am going to a public school and starting next month if everything goes well...

OP: The best advice I can give you is to ask a family member or friend back home to try and sort it out, and then send it to you.
My sympathy though.
Btw - I'm on my second year and went to Hong Kong on a visarun for both jobs. No problems. Maybe I was lucky.

My first degree was also obtained from a University in South Africa that no longer exists after the great shuffle. It became part of Tuks (Pretoria University). All the records of the old university were transferred to tuks' admin. They helped me out with no problems. This should have been done with your transcripts. They are just being lazy $ss admin workers like usual.

Try to get a friend or relative to go to the University and pick up your transcripts for you. Here is how it works:

Type a letter addressed to the admin of Limpopo University stating your name, ID number, Degree, Student nr and last known South African residential address. Then state that you give the bearer of the letter the authority to pick up your stanscripts. You also need to put all the personal information of the person who is going to pick up the stanrscripts in the letter. Sign the document and let the pick up person also sign the document. It sounds like a hassle but tuks gave my friend my transcripts with no problems when he showed them the letter.

Make sure the transcripts are stamped with an official university seal and placed in a sealed envelope with the university seal over the flap of the envelope. Get more than one transcript and make sure each transcript is in its own envelope.

I did this twice now since I have been in Korea and both times went down without any issues. The university is just being lazy because you are not standing in front of them. Sned someone to scream at them and make a scene. You know this is how most things get done on time in South Africa.
