I cannot help with publishers but I just want to say that I think it is a fantastic thing you are doing in wanting to publish some ESL educational materials.
Good on ya,

I second the above.
But I would ask that as a teacher, you would make it available free for others. Self publish.
Jump off the profit, commodity boat and into the waters of "education"........ My own two cents. The world is at a watershed and I hope it goes in the way of using technology to help ALL rather than just to make it into another way to make a buck. I'm probably wrong but I love swimming upstream. Just hope there are no kodiaks waiting....

Funny ddeubel, I love your site and use it regularly but now they have banned it at my school so I have to put whatever I use now on my flash drive at home. |

You may want to try contacting the big publishing companies in Korea (international companies and/or Korean companies) and submit a proposal for materials/text. I would recommend not giving a large amount of material (as a sample) upfront since you may find that copyright will not be honored. You could self-publish through many small publishers/printers here in Korea but then you would be left to do all the promotion yourself.
As teachers, our work is creating materials and learning tools. Not being paid for our professional work should NOT be an option. Most of us are not "volunteers" so being paid for quality work is essential--Don't do it for free! And make sure you get credit where credit is due. |

If you post it on a website with lots of google ads you might make
more money on the ad revenue then you would make publishing
it in paper form.
On the other hand you might become the JK Rowling of English
education. |

I have published quite a few books since being here in korea. I chose the route of POD (Print on Demand) for several reasons.
First, there are a few companies like www.lulu.com (my personal choice) who has no set-up fees and they are relatively easy to work with. Second, you can print one or one thousand copies if you want. You are only charged by the copy without any overhead. Third, they can print books in many different sizes and print formats that make it easy for you to plan what you want and how to set it up. They already have the templates on the website ready to download and use.
Fourth, once you have published a book you can purchase an ISBN independently or from them. (I purchase ISBNs independently because I can find them cheaper than the price lulu charges) Once you have purchased your ISBNs then you can make them available in Korean bookstores. Fifth, you set the price you want on your book and lulu takes a small percentage as their cut plus the print cost. For example, a book of approximately 100 pages would cost you about $6 to print and lulu takes $1.95 for their portion. So you set the price at $15 and your royalty would be $7.05. They give you the freedom to set whatever price you want. Of course if the price goes up, their cut goes up too. Of course the biggest issue is shipping costs from the print center for this region which is in Spain. I have figured out ways to work around the high costs of shipping, but it took me a while to get the hang of how to order and in what quanities so I didn't have to charge an arm and a leg to sell a book.
I recently published a 200 page TEFL Training guide that is available on lulu. To see it and go to their website at the same time click on the link below. There you cvan see some of the other projects I have completed while in Korea.

I have been totally pleased with the quality and professional appearance of the products lulu produces. I think you will be too. Chack them out and you won't be disappointed. |

spliff,
Best way around that is to just bookmark the esnip folder sites. You will probably be able to access them from school and they shouldn't be blocked. You can then avoid my smiling face.....at the batcave
If not, you can always get around this by using a third party network. Several sites you can use and I can't remember them off hand. Maybe someone can chime in with a site name. They do come in handy, especially if you are in lost in China or maybe now in the American military...
The next few days I'll be posting about a lot of new stuff I 've made accessible + the usual karaoke, videos etc....
