Hey,

My friend and I are planning to go to Japan for summer vacation. We live in Geoje, so we'll be taking the ferry from Busan to either Fukuoka or Osaka. We want to get around a bit (Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka) so will probably get some sort of Japanese rail pass. I estimate we'll be spending about a week there in total. We're not fussy eaters, and are prepared to sleep in anything with a bed and running water.

What kinda cost are we looking at in total (including ferry there and back, any Visa charges, rail pass, food, accommodation etc)?

Any idea on this would be a great help,
Thank you.

It depends on how long you are staying. Japan is one of the most expensive countries in the world, and Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world. So, I say you will drop a lot of money in just one week, unless you live on the cheap. Plus, traveling between those places you mentioned won't be cheap either. I have heard a train from Osaka to Tokyo can run about $200. I met a guy who said he felt broke in Tokyo with $10,000. So be prepared to open your wallet. That is, if you want to have a great time.

Yes, I understand that a Tokyo subway ride costs around $6 US. Crazy expensive.

I would guess that 1 million won for transportation to and from Korea and through Japan is a modest figure.

No, it doesn't. An average subway ride of 10 stops are so will probably cost around $2. Where did you hear $6?
