I am considering making the move over to Korea, and one of the major reasons is the money! Now I have read all about how it depends on your lifestyle etc, but I am wondering what is the average everyone saves a month. Thanks.

Yes, it depends on your lifestyle. It also depends on how much you have to pay off on bills back home, like student loans, etc.
If you don't have a mountain of bills, there is no reason why you can't save at least US$1000 per month and live very comfortably too. That's if you don't go out partying every night. Just make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you come. A lot of foreigners end up losing more money than they make because of some crooked recruiters and employers.
The best of luck with your search.

I spent a lot of money skiing and that put me behind
and now I'm thinking of getting a motorcycle.

I've sent home $8280 since coming here in August
but I have bills back home and now I just signed up
to start making student loan payments. I'll save
those forbearance months for when
I really need them.

I think it's reasonable, that if you're making 2.2, that you can put $1,500 a month if you're pretty strict with your budget.

Please try to be a little more exact with that figure. I just dont believe it was merely __80$. Wasnt it more like 8277.59$? Laughing

Anyway, it depends on what you earn and your lifestyle.

First year I was here, I only got 1.9 and had student loans so I didnt save a thing. Last year, I saved more since I didnt have the loans. This year, I'm getting 2.7 and its enough to put away an amount sufficient enough to jet from this place once and for all and get through grad school. I put away 1300$+ each month.

Ironically, if you really like Korea, you might not be saving as much. You'll be out buying, "bangbang" Korean brand designer jeans and going to nori bangs and drinking OB beer all the time and blowing your cash.

If you end up not liking it and thinking its boring here, you will save like mad because there's nothing will want to buy (except food).

The caveat is when you have some vacation time and Korea has become so unbearable that you are forced to spend a ton of money travelling to some other country for a week or 2.

This is the 100% best answer anyone is going to give on the subject, period.

I disagree. If you are making 2.2, after taxes, pension, health etc., you are looking at 1.95 or so. Then, you also have your apartment bills to pay, so maybe 1.8 after that. That gives you 300k won a month for spending money. That's not enough, unless you do absolutely nothing every day. I think saving 1 - 1.2 is more accurate.

I'll go with the US$1000 per month notion.

Everyone has a different lifestyle and needs. But if you aren't saving $1000 a month - you aren't even trying.

And, it can be done without counting your pennies.

$2,500 - $3,000 per month. But my job is better than almost everyone else's here, plus I'm pretty frugal. My target for this year is $32,000 total and I should make it easily.

Darn, where do you work?? I wanna go there... Actually, I know someone who makes about 5 million per month writing TOEFL tests plus teaching a few odd classes... but he says he has to work 12 hour days so it balances out...

Between you and your wife, or just you? Either way, pretty good.
