I'd like to get some opinions of prices and quality for my new rig. I've chosen the following:

Core2Duo 6600 2.4 GHZ 210,000 - 250,000

I was going to get a Q6700 but the prices are bad right now and even after the price cut are excessive. I might upgrade to a quad core later if neccessary.

Asus P5N32-E 250,000

I'm pretty clueless about MBs apart from the basics. Is this good?

Seagate SATA2 500GB x2 250,000

Is it okay putting two SATA drives together or would I need a RAID configuration?

Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB 400,000

GTX is too expensive and the 8600 is not good enough for gaming.

Memory, PSU and Case, I'm not sure what's available? I already have a copy of Vista (Don't ask) which I'll be using instead of XP which I have on my laptop.

Any advice is appreciated.

Power Supply. - Zalman zm600H2 (600 Watt) NICE! =120,000
Nice ATX case - Coupe 250 = 45,000
OCZ w/ a tight timing (best you can do in K-land) Get 4gigs = 285,000 x 2

Pretty high end rig, gonna cost a pretty penny!

Thanks a lot. Can I get those in Yongsan? Is it worh going for 4 gb over 2 gb? Is OCZ really that much better than Samsung?

Yes, I want to use it for the next few years especially for HD movies and DirectX 10 games (Vista). I'm willing to spend 1.5 - 2.0 million. I already have a 32 inch HDTV for a monitor.

Well...if you're gonna run Vista on it....4 is the sweet spot. And, if you get some decent CPU and vdc heat pipe coolers (zalman are high quality) and a multi card reader, also..you should come in at a smidgen below 2mill and have a real nice system, albeit not a quad core.. Very Happy

You can get everything in Yongson. Very Happy

Where did you get your prices?

Buying now is not a good idea. If you can hold off for Penryn, you won't be disappointed. Or Barcelona.

Within 6 months, quad-core will be the go. Gaming especially; more cores = more fun. That, and the next gen DX10 cards will be much better.

I got the prices on Danawa. I know the price cuts are coming and the new quad cores but hopefully I can upgrade when they arrive as I really want something now. I'm using my laptop as a desktop and I can see it rapidly deteriorating as it gets very hot (dual core processors). Do you know if the next gen of processors are compatible with sockect 775?

Buying now is never a good idea with PCs as there is always something better just around the corner.

IF you're in this for gaming it's all about the graphics card. Get the best you can afford and get less CPU. You're going to upgrade to Penryn anyways. These days, as long as you got a core2 you can play any game and future games. core2's overclock like crazy, to, but I don't think you'll need to. Games are almost ALL about GPU these days.

I doubt that the mainboards will generally support quad-core when it comes. they will be first for the enthusiast market and generally, that market doesn't mind paying for new things.

I may be wrong - it's anyone's guess. Things are pretty hush-hush about Penryn right now for a couple of reasons. First, Intel want to overshadow Barcelona and second, they want to keep people in the dark, as it really hasn't been that long since the CoreDuo releases and people may not take kindly to hearing about a CPU that is twice as powerful as the one they have that is literally right around the corner.

It really lies with Intel (if they change sockets), mainboard makers (if they want to release BIOS flash-able boards and finally with the CPU/mainboard architecture. If a quad-core will use the same hardware or need a new setup completely to operate...variables. I say no, the mobos won't support quad-core.

Hey Demo, the new Gigabyte DS-3 (Rev.3.3) says it supports quad core and 1033MHz bus speed. I'm hoping I'll be able to upgrade in the future, but if they change sockets...well.

BTW Do they accept those 100,000 won checks in Yongsan or will I need a sackful of loot?

That's good news! Didn't know that....thnx for the heads up.

VRM spec is the issue...Looks like 11.0, so that's safe. Seems Intel will move to 11.1 with the LGA1366 socket (Bloomfield/Nehalem) in mid-2008, but will stay with LGA775 for now.

I just cheacked this out...parts of my last post are dead wrong. As are my previous statements about Penryns' initial compatibility with current mainboards. The 1366 socket will be quite a radical change, but I guess it makes sense for Intel to release the first incarnations of a new CPU to function with existing (although certainly newer) hardware. So, seems we are safe until mid 2008 with the LGA775 socket.

I just finished building my new system, I'm typing this on it. It ended up a little cheaper than I expected but I did go for some cheaper components as I can always ugrade later.

CPU: Core2Duo E6600 Price: 215,000

Great value for a nice processor.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35c-DS3R Price: 184,000

A bit pricey but well worth it if you check the features. It is compatible with all Core2Duo and Core2Quad CPUs and the upcoming 45nm CPUs. It also has 6 RAM slots, 4x DDR2 and 2 DDR3. Its not an SLI MB but I was never going to get two graphics cards. Also includes an overclocking program so you can overclock the processors from Windows.

Graphics Card: Xenon Geforce 8800GTS 320 MB Price: 340,000

This is a Korean brand but I figured they are all pretty much the same and I could't find any other brands, apparently Korea is only importing the 8600 cards not the "old" 8800s. I can easily upgrade to a GTX down the line if I need to.

RAM: Samsung DDR2-800 4x1GB Price: 192,000

Great price and I've heard Samsung RAM is pretty good. Any imported RAM would cost twice as much.

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA2 7,200 RPM Price: 140,000

Great price for a top brand. My Seagate laptop drive is top notch and I hope this will be too. I will probably get another of these in a few months.

DVD drive: LG GSA-H42N Price: 34,000

Bargain, reads and burns every single CD and DVD format including Dual Layer DVDs.

PSU: LG LP-500 Price: 48,000

I wanted a 600W but I couldn't find one in iPark, I should have checked the rest of Yongsan but without SLI 600W is a little excessive. I can always buy another later as 48,000 is not much really.

Case: No Name Brand Price 28,000

A nice white case to go with my Xbox360. I may replace this later if I can find a nice brand name case in Yongsan
Total: 1,181,000

A lot less than I'd budgeted for so I'm going to buy some quality fans to replace my case fan and Intel's stock fan. Hopefully I can overclcock a lot more after that.

Thanks.

Not yet. I'll post some tomorrow if you're interested. It's pretty messy inside the case but the motherboard is nice looking and the case is not bad for a cheap Chinese made one. The Geforce 8800 is a monster, it takes up two slots at the back. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse setup too so using my TV as a monitor is working pretty well.

I am considering getting the Gigabyte GA-P35c-DS3R. Any problems with it so far?
