(illegal refers to those who teach privates as well as fake degrees. |

While an illegal teacher with no degree can't claim status as a teacher (and wouldn't legally be able to benefit from legal benefits), a legal teacher with a real degree that does privates is a different story. A teacher doing privates wouldn't be detectable if they are playing their cards right. |

I don't think I would remotely consider joining an association that would even contemplate helping criminals that end up dragging our reputations through the mud, not to mention drive teachers' wages down.
I also don't think I'd want someone in charge that obviously doesn't understand basic ethics, nor economics. |

If you supported a union (meaning you are a member) then you are illegal and can be deported. |

I would support an association of teachers.
I would not support a union that solicited and protected teachers acting illegally under existing law. That sort of thing doesn't make sense - legally or ethically.
I would however support an association whose purpose including promoting the legalization of teaching private students while on an E-2 visa and included changing regulations to come in to line with law. I think the industry aind immigration regulations needs to change.
I would also support an association that proposed to defend the rights of the accused. (Because a person is not guilty until proven to be guilty.
If the association or union defends people who admit to doing something illegal, I think that would be a waste of membership funds. |

Illegal teachers are a big part of the problem here in Korea. They keep our salaries down and lower the bar to the floor, and maybe even into the basement. |

Question is a bit handicapped imo; it's like asking "would you support a union that excluded scabs?" |

Nope. Illegal does not ONLY refer to those with fake degrees. Those who teach privates or engage in other activities not covered by their visa are also included. |

I agree. Any one who gets caught doing illegal activity should not be supported.
Why should any union support someone who's committed crime and got busted.
If you're not discrete and stupid enough to get caught teaching privates or any other illegal activity, then you deserve the hefty fine and deportation. |
