I've seen the prices on these dropping quite a bit lately, has anyone bought one yet?
I have a couple questions if anyone on here is Samsung savvy:
1.) If I buy one with a mechanical HD will I be able to get a Flash
based SSD when I can eventually afford one?
2.) What is the battery life like on the extended battery?
3.) How roadworthy are they? |

i'm quite a fan of umpcs ... i think they're going to be quite useful when the technology catches up to the concept.
this site is quite good for information. i'm linking you to the Q1 ultra specs page ... you can see some links to reviews in the lower right table.

There are many UMPCs. Raon Digital has a Vega, which I've been using for the last 3 months, it's cool. They'll release a new one soon (I've seen the specs and it's all good, much better than before. I can't divulge specs but suffice to say that the website should be updated soon.)
I understand the Q1 had a pretty poor battery for a device that's supposed to be mobile. You really want a one charge per day device. Aside from that 800*480 is suboptimal on a 7inch screen IMO and the lack of a keyboard/keypad really bites on all UMPCs.
The Q1 ultra on the other hand: Keypad (you can't touch type but you can at least input a password or URL or play games on it.); more memory, more battery life and more functionality.
Look to portability above all else. If it's not sufficiently more portable (including battery) than a notebook, you should be getting a notebook. It's why I like my Vega (aside from the fact that I didn't pay for it) I can pocket it. |

I'd like to restate my original questions and add some more information about what I want in this bump.
I plan to use it along with an M-Audio Triggerfinger as a sort of Groovebox similar to Roland's MC-505 and MC-909 but with a much more flexible interface and expansion options.
Again, if anyone can tell me about the Q1 in particular, I am partial to this unit because of the finger touch screen. I would greatly appreciate it. |
