Anaheim. It isn't even going to be a series.

Stats suggest otherwise.

Ottawa outhits Anaheim by a wide margin and Anaheim coughs up giveaways by a wide margin. Plus twice as many takeaways and blocked shots by Ottawa.

Such lopsided defensive stats are rare, suggesting the series could be over very quickly, especially with the Senators speed and transition game.

------------------

from nhl.com:

Hitting:

A: Pahlsson has 57 hits but the next most is Getzlaf with 25.
O: Fisher 47, Schubert 44, Neil 41, Phillips 38, Volchenkov 37, Alfredsson 25.

Shot-blocking:

A: S. Niedermayer 30, Pronger 24
O: Volchenkov 61, Phillips 45, Meszaros 18

Takeaways:

A: S. Niedermayer 20, Chris Pronger 11
O: Alfredsson 24, Spezza 15, Schaefer 12, Vermette 10

Giveaways:

A: S. Niedermayer 22, Getzlaf 20, Selanne 19, Beauchemin 15, Pronger 15, McDonald 14, Perry 14, R. Niedermayer 12, Penner 12, Kunitz 10.
O: Spezza 14, Phillips 12

Anaheim in 5 or 6. Anaheim has a much stronger defence and better goaltending. Ottawa has also played some soft non physical teams and Anaheim is anything but.

Admittedly, my interest is next to nil now that Detroit is out...

I guess I'd rather have the Sens win it....

I hate the cup being in all of these cities where most the the people don't give a rat's ass...

I don't know about that. I was watching the CBC and they were talking about how Ottawa getting pretty excited about it. Frankly, I think I would be, too if I were there... and it takes a lot to excite me about sporting events.

Where are you from Sophocles?

He's not talking about Ottawa... Any Canadian city would be excited to have any NHL hockey. He's talking about cities like Carolina, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Anaheim.

Actually I think it's more of a "the-sens-are-the-ONLY-game-in-town" deal, but yes, I was referring to American cities who don't give a sheit... not Ottawa...

I love people who make these comments about the senators. Ottawa is regarded as having the deepest defence in the league... 6 guys that can roll over the boards. Anaheim does not have that. ANA has two excellent, top 5 defencemen, and a third who is pretty damn good in Beauchemin. There are two reasons those three each log close to 30 minutes a game. The first is that they're excellent players. The second is that ANA doesn't really have anyone else worth throwing over the boards.

Anaheim comes out ahead in the overall D match-up, but not by a heck of a lot, and you wont find any hockey analyst who thinks otherwise.

Anaheim has two of the best defencemen in the league. Pronger and Neidermayer are both better than anything Ottawa has. They both have played in the Stanley Cup finals before so I don't think the pressure will get to them. Not even close.
I also don't think Emery will come up big for Ottawa. Giggy has been there before. I think experience will make the difference so it's Anaheim in 5 or 6..
