I was chatting on MSN with an ex-co-worker of mine from Kuwait and I found out that 3 of my ex-coworkers (1 American and 2 Egyptians) were arrested near Arijan Air Base on charges of spying for the Iraqi insurgency.
When he told me their names, I couldn't believe it; they were the same guys with whom I would hang out with.
It comes to show that you have to be careful of the people you work with.

Wow...I guess that's what makes them spies: you never know who they are. That must have been a real shock.

ha ha, ... my girlfriend's step-brother had some twisted ideas and it wasn't until quite a while before he mentioned his habit of going to public swimming pools to check out preadolescents... the good thing about having known a bit of his character is that guys who are like him become easier to sense... he worked in a mortuary, which made him all the more creepy...

the world is full of all kinds

I met this really nice and friendly guy, but later he started teasing me,
and eventually I realized he had full blown Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder

These people are extremely manipulative and I read on the internet that the way to handle them is to say very little to them and hope they get bored with you and move on.

The experience was very scary but the good thing is I am now aware of how to spot these people and what to do if I encounter one again in the future.

I work with an alcoholic, self-admitted. He knows himself. That's fine, I sort of thought he was joking about being an alcoholic; he has a great sense of humor and irony. After some months I began to see he drinks every night, a lot. Everybody knows this, but it's Korea and this is ok behavior. I don't drink, and tend to thrash around at work instead of being laid-back.

He does as little as possible at work quite cunningly, and puts the accent on low-key charm and interpersonal relations, to get the most out of his energy expenditure. Maybe it's his sense of irony 'realizing' the 'English teaching biz is a farce'. Maybe it's him being low on energy from having tied one on the night before. His passion is being laconic.

This was ok until he indicated he thinks he's 'superior cool'. Having given him the benefit of the doubt, thinking he was kidding about being an alcoholic, I then got pissed off. I hadn't yet realized he was probably feeling weak and over-compensating, being really hungover that day. What am I going to do, bug him about it? He's laid back about just about everything, including being an alcoholic.

Now I just figure he's right about himself, and being honest, so accept what he says as the gospel. He doesn't want to be bothered and wants to work a little, and have fun drinking a lot. It makes him comfortable to live like this. It's his niche. So let him be, and be kind to him. Anyway, the schools and students like him, he goes with the flow.

i've had the displeasure of observing a co-worker who tends to snap violently at work and has a penchant for living like a foul homeless man with hobbies that just make you scratch your head. at first, i thought perhaps he was just a little misguided but overall an ok bloke. as time has progressed though, his filthy habits have worsened, students and staff alike have found him distasteful, and he's become judgemental, launching laughable accusations at others without first examining his own behaviour. it's quite pathetic. to think he's been a teacher in asia for close to ten years is shocking to me. how do these people fall through the cracks? although i suppose this one, in particular, is quite comfortable living deep within the crack, from where he can launch his baseless attacks on others while festering in his own filth.

Okay, nothing anyone else has posted on here has come close to the OP's story about knowing Americans who are helping the Iraqi insurgents. How did that happen, and why hasn't it made the news yet (or has it?)?
