|
|
How effective are these university classes for the gyopo who can speak fluently, but has limited writing and slow reading.
Would it be worthwhile for her to shell up for university classes at Yonsei? Apparently over US1K a semester! |

I think the best way would be for her to find another gyopo (like me) to study writing/reading together.
I got a few books on learning Korean but doing them by myself is a chore. If I had someone else working through the lessons with me then it would be much easier. |

Get a private tutor who does NOT want a language exchange (you'll end up doing more for the exchange then what you get out of it).
I went to Yonsei in 1994 and hated it. It's a waste of money and the classmates suck. Try one of the lesser known places if you are dead set on attending a language institute at a uni. |

I think it would be a waste of money. I studied at Yonsei with a person who could speak very well but just needed to work on her writing and reading skills. She dropped out very quickly because it was so boring for her. |

Most students go there get paid for by their parents, so its worth it for them.
Think about it...would you pay for it? If you had to pay for it with your own money, of course. |

Use me!!! I'm dying to find someone to help my Korean. I'm a gyopo too. I can read, semi write, and my speaking could use some work.
I got textbooks too. Elementary Korean and also Continuing Korean which is REALLY good for people who already have an understanding of the language. |

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're trying to say there... |

Hi, maybe I should put you in touch with my friend. Could you PM me with some of your details, including A/S/L, that sort of thing? |

I'm not a Kyopo, but I see them all over Yonsei where I'm taking a level 1 Korean class right now. It's all about the grammar there. Very little speaking etc. But they really push you to work hard. I would've never learned as much as I have without signing up for the class and paying 753K won. |

I plan on going to Yonsei this summer. I heard it's mostly for socializing with classmates, partying, etc. |

I like Sookdae (숙명여대). The terms are shorter. Sogang I found to be quite arrogant about their program. They think it's the best and continually tell their students that they're the best. |

Sogang is good if you're totally new to Korean, as it stresses conversation. But if you're already familiar with speaking Korean, perhaps another school will be better.
Sookmyung Women's Univ. has a tie-up with Inlingua and has advertised a lot, but I don't know how good that program is.
And yes, going to class is a good opportunity to meet new people, especially from around the world (but usually from Japan). |

great advice....I've got a private tutor who I pay about 7 bucks an hour...we have a 100 percent no English rule, a give me more vocab and expressions because I keep using the same damm words rule, and keep your teacher talk time to below 15 percent rule...works well and beats the price of those 'waist your money japanese students don't speak and the teacher babbles on and on about 3 simple or otherwise frequently used grammar points while not giving but 2 fuuukkinggg new words an hour hagwons'
of course if you like to have busy work work sheets thrown at you while the teacher wastes your time talking blah blah..and YOU get just a couple of minutes of talk time per day...then yeah ...go for Yonsei and if you want to experience true non-learning activities attend YBM's korean classes where 목진만, the director, will painfully teach you the meaning of the phrase "non-interactive class" |
