The currency finished at C$1.0847 to the U.S. dollar, or 92.19 U.S. cents, down from C$1.0821, or 92.41 U.S. cents, at Wednesday's close.

Lord. I remember circa 2001 when it was pert near C$1.50 to the U.S. dollar. Damn sweet times when you were earning American bucks and could cross the border into Canada for oil changes and sushi, etc.

Fortunately the Korean Won has been appreciating along side the Canadian buck.

For you currency speculators: I'm going to be returning to Canada end of November 2007. This will mean:

a) The Korean won is going to tank (probably because NK nukes Osaka).

and/or

b) The Canadian dollar is going to shoot up (Microsoft decides it's going to relocate to Vancouver, Newfoundland is found to be built on a bottomless supply of Helium 3 regolith, and the Canadian Wave hits Asia).

I base this on the fact I live a life of extremely bad timing and economic forces always conspire against me when I make life changes like this.

I remember when the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar, slightly over 30 years ago. Canadians would go shopping in the US a lot more than they do now.

Yes!

Wherever I go, expect the currency to tank.

I was born 10 miles from the US border in Trail, British Columbia. My parents used to cross border shop when the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US Dollar. The prices were cheaper in the US and you got extra money. Good times. Smile

I was born in Windsor, Ontario, where we have to drive NORTH to get to America. Yeah, my dad fondly recalls a time when the Canadian dollar was worth more. Oddly, it's always mentioned in a tone of voice like "there was a time man walked freely with god in the garden of Eden".

But as long as US energy allies keep going over to the dark side and Canada remains America's sole stable democracy supplying it with oil, gas, uranium, hydro, and a hep load of strategic metals, don't doubt the Canadian dollar may well hit parity and then go north of that. Who imagined, for example, the Euro would ever be stronger than the US dollar?
