I can think of one specific place.

On the way to work everyday, I pass by a small convenience store.

The name is 'Store and Swiss Panini'. I always forgot to get off and get myself an awesome panini sandwich, or else I'd already eaten, had no time, etc. One day I finally made the time and I stopped in.

I walked in and looked to my right. No panini sandiwches. Left. No panini sandwiches. I then searched the whole store.

I found some of those crappy sandwiches in the packages, triange kimbap, chips, soda, crappy Korean snacks, etc. Not a panini in sight, nor a sign that there used to be any. Just straight false advertising.

The ajumma behind the counter (I assume she's the owner) is cracking her gum loudly and asks me '뭘 찾아?' Lovely. Being talked down to by a troll. I walked out without saying a word.

It means 'what are you looking for?' but she used a lower form of speech, one you would use for underlings or children. Not to customers.

I know this is annoying, but sometimes signs in Korea are deceiving. Just because a sign says "panini" doesn't really mean there are any paninis in there. Just like some bars have a sign out front that say "jazz bar". Go inside and it's not jazz you will hear.

No reason? Just your envy?

Yeah, places that advertise jazz and don't have it deserve to lose all of their patronage.

There's this really small grocery store near my apartment I used to go to. The clerk working there, a plump, mid-thirties Korean woman, never said hello, goodbye, thank you or anything except the total (I always spoke to her in Korean and smiled, but never anything in response.
This pissed me off, but it's close to my place and cheap, so I kept going there. Until one day:

I bought a few small things, and the total was 3400 won. I gave her 4500 won, expecting 1100 in return. I only got 100 won. When I objected and told her I gave her 4500 won, she insisted I gave her only 3500 won.
After a few minutes of us arguing in my very broken Korean, the other guy working there goes back and checks the security tapes. Sure enough, a few minutes later he comes out and produces 1000 won for me. What does the woman behind the counter do? Nothing. No apology.
I know she didn't do this intentionally, but in the service industry you should still apologize for honest mistakes.

Was this when you were living in Apku? If so, I bet that I know the store that you are talking about.
