OK, I know this sounds like a ridiculous idea.....
but has anyone done this?...how much does the ferry thing cost for a vehicle and how long do you have to wait to get on the ferry? I thought it might be a nice road trip down then across.....IT may be MUCH more than just flying down there and getting a taxi etc. to get around...the scooter/bike rental idea sounds great but that is not possible for me.

You could just rent a car there like everybody else. There are tonnes of car rental places there. I did it. |

I've done Cheju in every possible way. Taxi, tour bus...and last time I took my own car over on the ferry. I actually preferred this, because I didn't have to carry all my stuff with me - I could just pack up my car. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was around 100,000 round trip to take my car on the ferry. That's cheaper than renting a car for the weekend...
The wait wasn't too long at all, and it was surprisingly quite organized.
However you do it, have fun! |

I guess my next question was ...how much do you think the gas would be from the Seoul area down? It should be open driving not too far out of Seoul....thanks again. |

2 tanks of gas and tolls. Maybe 175,000 won give or take round trip. Plus another tank of gas in Jeju and ferry. Another 150,000. This is only a guess as I have never taken the ferry to Jeju but I have driven to Pusan from Seoul. |

I drove from Seoul to the Busan area about 3 weeks ago and it cost me about 50,000 each way. |

How much is the toll now? I remember it being over 20,000 won. Is that about right? A tank of gas costs me 80,000 won these days, if I'm on empty.
You must of drove a Matiz or a Tico! |

Sorry, forgot about the toll. It ran about 15,000 I think. I left Seoul on full tank and I filled up about 10 minutes outside Busan and it was 48,000. I was driving a Sportage and was one of the faster vehicles on the highway. |

Don't get me wrong here. I'm really trying to figure out the actual costs. So the Sportage. That's a diesel, if I'm not mistaken, plus another 30,000 won for tolls. I was pretty damn close at 175,000. I think. |

Nope, gas. We're looking at around 130,000 here. |

So, say 130,000 + 100,000 ferry + driving time + waiting for the ferry time = I'd fly down and rent a car if it's only two people. |
