With everything going on in Daejeon, do a lot of E-2 visa teachers do privates? If you do, is this campaign a determent? Is it worth the risk?

Private lessons or private tutoring in Korea is a topic that comes up fairly often on these discussion forums. As such, this sticky intends to centralize discussions on that topic to avoid redundancy and to provide a central point to gather information and discussion around.

This sticky will also outline what can and cannot be discussed when it comes to private lessons. These discussion forums cannot allow the open discussion of illegal activities or of how to do illegal activities and get away with it. Hence, some limitations must be imposed. What you will find below are rough guidelines that the moderators will work with in order to moderate discussions on private lessons.

First of all, it is important that all teachers realize that for E-2 visa holders, teaching private lessons is an illegal act that can lead to a fine and to deportation. Teachers under the F-series visa can sometimes register to be able to teach private lessons legally.

Discussions about privates will be tolerated in this thread but other threads that crop up outside of this sticky will be removed to avoid redundancy.

Discussions of how to evade immigration or how to obtain private lessons will not e tolerated. Requests to be offered private lessons will also not be tolerated.

What will be tolerated is discussions on the legality of private lessons. Users will also be allowed to discuss the law as it pertains to private lessons. Here, it is important that all teachers realize that most of the legal interpretation or advice they might receive comes from fellow teachers and not from lawyers or experts on labour laws in Korea. As such, this information is to be taken with a grain of salt.

EDIT: This is also the place to discuss F-series visa rules when it comes to private lessons.

In before the lock...

I used to do them before I got my F2 and I still do them. Now I am not very secretive. When people asked me before I used to say 'no, but yes'.
