What an idiotic comparison this is. There will never be a total acceptance of US presence in Iraq. Here's the link:

I think a more realistic and optimistic model would be the Phillippines. The US invaded, causing major loss of life, and over about 50 years the Phillippines became independent. And now today everyone over there loves the US. But most likely Vietnam is a closer comparison.

Yea, in the case of the Philipines, the US were fighting with the Filipinas to stave off the Japanese. The South Korean situation was similar in the they were fighting together to ward off the Communist forces. That's why I feel this is a bad comparison. Many, many Iraqis still view the Americans as an unwanted aggressor. There won't be anything close to the long term stability that the other countries have shown. I think Bush will spin whatever he can to try and make this appear to be anything but the disaster that it really is.

No, the Americans were helping the Filipinos fight off the Spanish. Then they decided to help themselves to the spoils, starting the Philippine-American War, around which time 1.5 million Filipinos died out of a total population of 6 million. The Japanese didn't invade until much later.

No.......the damage is done. He'd be better off just keeping his mouth shut. His legacy is sunk, anyway.
