My income is personal, so I would only answer anonymously- why not make a poll for this thread?

I make between 2.8-4.5 before taxes depending on which program I teach, but I work for a company with very long hours and difficult classes. I don't get OT by the hour, but a lump sum bonus for some programs. My apartment is very upscale, and I get some extra benefits (like 2 months vacation, good food, transportation, culture vouchers, etc.). Most importantly, my colleagues and students are freakin' awesome. On the flip side, I have to do a lot of administrative work and curriculum development on the fly, and I am constantly evaluated by students and management. I also commute 45 minutes each way. I am on an E-2 visa. These positions are rare, and it requires a hard look at what kind of quality of life you want. I wouldn't look down on someone who made half as much money as me, and probably works half the hours, but my only purpose in coming here was to save a ton of money as quickly as possible.

If I wasn't concerned with keeping this corporation on my resume, I would teach at a university and do tons of privates on the side, which I think would add up to as much money with less work.

But, Jinju, aren't you the one who thinks women are stupid, pampered princesses incapable of supporting themselves?

i walked right into that one... Embarassed

I have actually talked to someone who said they earn 7.5 million a month but when i asked them to break it down they said it was top secret or some similar crap...

I do know somebody who is making about 4.5 -5.0 a month but they are working very hard. start at 8, finish at 10 kind of thing....

Is this legal teaching or private teaching.

I have heard many stories of private teachers breaking the law and making 5+ even heard stories of 8million.

Not sure how long they keep that workload up for and what size of suitcase they need to carry all those 10,000 notes

I thought it would be obvious that I was joking about my salary....

If are working in a public school or other morning position then you have a great opportunity to teach privates. You can easily get a couple of hours a night, and if you're willing to work on Saturdays then you could pull in at least an extra million a month. It should not be uncommon then for teachers to make 5million a month, provided they have the right type of visa of course Wink

It is a couple privates but nothing illegal..all legal.

I have 1 private signed off by immigration...

I do 2 more in my school classrooms and my boss has no problem with it...as long as i work well for her she is happy.

My starting salary is pretty decent.

I make 3.9-4.5 depending on the month, but I have to pay for my own housing and get no bonuses/airfare/etc. How to do this:

1. Work at a hagwon that teaches the richest 5% of the Korean kids and has high teacher turnover.
2. Wait until everyone who's taught there longer than you leaves and become head teacher by default.
3. Work long hours.

Not too hard to do as long as you can swing 1.
