Consider watching just the first 45 minutes or so...if you have the time.
Very comforting to know. |

The IRS website has a page that attempts to refute some of the points in the film concerning the tax protestor argument. (but then they would want to do that, wouldn't they?)

Korean taxes or American taxes?
I have the correct answer (I just went through this, too).
Let me know which country, and let me know if you have been working in Korea for more than 2 years and I'll tell you. |

I only watched the first 20 seconds of that video, but if that's same lame argument that taxation is unconstitutional (or somehow protects Americans from paying income taxes) -it's been tried and failed. According to the Supreme Court of the United States, taxes are perfectly constitutional. |

I've read that you don't have to pay taxes as an American for the first two years. But you need to have the official proof of residency. I guess I should do that, I didn't even know until I read it from the EPIK website. My friend applied for his, I hear it takes 30 days. Darn it. I guess I'll have to have mommy mail it to me. I might as well not work until I get it because it says you have to have that within the first 10 days of work to not get taxed by the U.S. govt. for the upcoming 2 years. I think it's pretty retarded, the passport and the fact I get bills and have an address should be enough for proof of residency. |

You are confusing the two year exemption from Korean income taxes with the US income tax exclusion. One lets you get out of paying Korean taxes and the other lets you get out of paying most of your US taxes for your
entire stay in Korea.
There is a way around providing the proof for the Korean government.
I'm not exactly sure how it works but my school did it for me.
Here's the thread you need. Email me with any questions.
