Hey Guys,
SO here is my deal. I am not planning to come to Seoul until late August, maybe even September. I am not to concerened about the date. I would rather hold out for a good school then set a date to leave and take whatever comes up. So with that said, should I start looking now, or wait until Im closer to the dates that I can leave.
Also, I know that I should be looking for a public school over a Hagwon, however, I was told by my recruiter that since I am applying with my boyfriend, we would not get a job at the same school or area, so it is best to look for hagwons?? Any thoughts??
AND, is the going rate still 2 000 000 won. I have a four year degree, plus half and EDU degree (which probably doesnt count for much, but I cant finish it until I save some money) I also have classroom experience with students in Canada, and volunteer work with ESL adults. Shouls I be negotiating?
Sorry about all the questions. But my computer does not let me search Daves for some odd reason, and I also prefer recent info! Thank guys!! (sorry about spelling, Im on a break at work and trying to rush) |

You might be able to get into the G/EPIK government program which will start a new semester at beginning of September - look for recruiters who deal with this scheme. Work n' Play will be a sure bet for GEPIK contracts. Salaries are 2 mill with housing with no experience.
Otherwise, you probably can't pick and choose your 'ideal' job without at least first having some prior teaching experience and knowing the job market here first hand. You might have to just get in with anything, and seek out something else after your first year.
There is nothing better than checking the job boards on here day by day for what's coming up to find something that suits you. |

There are lots of school districts in Gyeonggi province (the donut shaped province that surrounds Seoul city) who would love to have a "couple" as a teaching pair in the same or neighboring schools.
DON'T let some recruiter hand you some line of crap to get you to sign a hakwon contract.
The fall term starts on Aug 24 for most schools this year. The public school orientation should occur in the week before that.
Lots of schools will not be able to get a new FT by the start of the school fall term so you can expect a number of ASAP public school positions to be offered in early Sept as well.
Public schools usually do not negotiate newbie salaries, especially for those who are hired from abroad, unless you have MORE THAN ONE year of VERIFIABLE classroom experience. |

Someone is blowing smoke.... Your recruiter... I had a friend who worked for GEPIK in Gyungi-do and she and her boyfriend were hired as a couple, worked in nearby schools and shared an apartment.... Just be sure they give you a bigger apartment like they are supposed to.... There should be twice the key money and twice the rent for two teachers... |
