Hi,
I finished my contract a few months ago and left a suitcase of clothes & stuff in Seoul. I'd planned on doing another contract but you know how plans can change...
If anyone is headed towards Boston/New York (or any of the surrounding states) and has the available space, I'll pay you to bring my suitcase with you (I estimate it's about 80 lbs).
As an FYI, shipping with DHL or UPS costs at least $800(US) That's why I'm posting here.
If you wanna make a couple hundred bucks, let me know.
email me at [email protected]
Thanks. |

How much are you looking to pay? I can have this shipped with a sea shipping company into USA as personal goods from Korea. If it travels via sea, cost is low. You pay for the shipping TYD.
I'll have to go to Incheon international airport for you by car. This cost is: time, expertise, and gas... probably have to spend the whole day doing this. |

And when the airline rep. asks "Did you pack this suitcase yourself?...
I think I would want to look inside first. |

This is not an easy order to fill given the world we live in these days. I'm sure this is an honest request, but there are problems with this kind of matter that make it potentially difficult. You can never be too careful.
Without knowing the receiver personally, a million things can go wrong here. Can anyone vouch for you besides friends? This can get problematic...Patriot Act world.
If you have a buddy in the US Army, then all your problems are solved. Otherwise, this is a hard one.
UPS may be the best way to go...I can do it for less, but even I would need to exercise extreme caution and due dilligence which would make it expensive. |

Guys, I don't have anything special (mostly books and clothes), so to apease your curiosity and post 9-11 concerns, you're more than welcome to look through everything before you take it (I sure would). You can even repack it if you want. I don't care, I just want my stuff.
On another note, I checked out sea transport and they arent any cheaper than UPS. Maybe for large containers, but not suitcases.
So for those of you offering to ship it for me, unless your shipping method is free, you wont make any money.
Also, I suggested this to people who're flying because it won't require any effort for them to make some extra cash.
One thing you will have to do is go get it from the person holding it for me in Dongdaemoon.
Thanks. |

Who exactly did you check out? I have personally shipped 3 CBM's of motorcycle parts from America to Korea going through the port of Pusan and arriving in Seoul for $835. I was even taxed, and this included brokerage fees, too.
Odd...(perplexed actually) |

Just an FYI..... surface post is 48,000 won for 20 kilos of sfuff.
USA is zone 3 - scroll down to surface mail.

80 lbs is just under 40 kg.
A number 5 box has a combined outside linear dimension of 2 meters.
2 or 3 boxes should get it all sent with a cost of around 100k won and a shipping time of 6-10 weeks delivered to your door.

I'm not sure but it might have something to do the the direction of transport. US to korea -vs- Korea to US.
Airlines like Delta and Northwest will transport things from the US to Korea but not Korea to US.
I called a couple shipping companies and got really high fees.
It's a strange thing indeed. |

That sounds about right. I've usually worked with shipping companies (for larger freight) so I can't say if those figures are spot on, but $800 USD is simply ridiculous.
So who is willing to do this for our fine stranger?

Well, I initially checked with the post office and they also quoted me a ridiculously high price.
I still need to check up on it, but if ttompatzs posting is accurate, I'll just do that...
thanks kids. |

You have to remember that you want SURFACE mail and not air parcel or EMS.
I just sent 2 boxes of stuff to a school that we correspond with in Canada so I know the information is accurate. |

I can vouch for ttompatz on this one. We just sent three #5 boxes home to the eastern U.S. this week for around 85,000 won. It varies slightly by weight. You have to choose the right method and they said it would take up to two months.
So, if you don't get any takers, maybe your friend can just unpack, rebox, and ship the stuff to you. |

My parents shipped a big suitcase full of clothes to me via boat. It was $50 and they said it would take around 6-8 weeks. My parents shipped it March 30th. Its now June 1st and I haven't heard/seen anything yet. |

I hope it gets there, but you never know. So many ways for it to get lost.
I use a commercial carrier. Guvvy post sometimes doesn't quite pan out at times. |

Yeah I can vouch that sending it via sea will cost around 30-40,000 for 20 kgs. Takes a couple of months though. I've done it from Australia to Ireland too and it was about 85,000. Nowhere near 800,000. As another poster said, just get your friend to repack it and send it if you don't mind waiting a couple of months. If not, then I'll do it for 500,000 |
