Does LG provide any English service?
I have heard that they offer foreigners the chance to get their own phone provided they agree to have the bill automatically deducted from their account. I really want to do this as my girlfriend is pretty much useless when I need help with my phone... KTF is my current provider and they suck the big one par excellance.
I digress...
yes, I have heard that LG offers foreigners their own phone... is this available in Busan?
thanks much |

Yes, nation wide but you may need a translator help you get hooked up. Not all phone shops are foreigner friendly. |

Any idea if I can get the typical bonus phone by switching companies?
If not how much do you think it will cost me?
If my present phone is in the name of a Korean already will I have to have that Korean's ID number to change companies? |

Yes, if you are trying to switch and keep the same number you will need the permission and copy of the ID card of the Korean who officially owns the phone.
If you get a new phone and number you do NOT need their ID.
I don't know if you will get the cheap phone or much of a trade in when you switch. That particular item may depend on what the store has in stock for phones and if it is a BRANDED LG company store or just a generic we sell everyone phone shop. |

I got an LG phone a few months ago... had a gyopo co-worker come with me to sort out the language barrier. Got a brand-new phone for FREE, as they had some sort of promotion on, and had my choice of 3 different models, each free. Paid the 30 000W activation fee, and walked out of the shop in 25 min with a working phone in my hand, in my name. Take your ARC and bank book. Bill is auto deducted from my account. Had to sign a 3 month contract (~35 000W per month) but after that, can tweak the contract options (minutes/ texts/ internet access/ etc). |

So do you get included minutes with your phone and contract?
Did you have to pay a deposit? |

Hello again. We talked about this before on another thread. I have my bill in front of me and after some dictionary work, I can tell you what kind of plan that I have.
http://www.lgtelecom.com/jsp/cc/priceplan/voice_priceplan08.jsp#subTab01
I have the plan called 표준플러스
기본료 Basically, I am charged a service fee of 13,000 won a month.
10초당 요금 It's 18 won for every ten seconds and it drops to 15 won from 8 pm - midnight.
기타혜택 As an bonus, you get free caller ID.
적용대상 I don't know what this means so perhaps someone can help.
In any event, I like the service I have. I've had it for hmmm over 6 months without any problems. I already had a phone when I got this service set up, so I can't say anything about free phones and whatnot...
No deposits.... My bill changes from month to month depending on my usage. You are charged for going over the limit on text messages and calls but the fees are minimal. I'm usually charged in the range of 23,000 won - 29,000 won but I've only been charged 29,000 won once in the last 4 months...
Best of luck!

I just went to the LG shop at Hong Dae Ip Gu Subway stop (Green Line, near Sinchon). There was a young man there who spoke perfect English, must have grown up in America. He offered me a new LG Cyon phone with for 170,000 won. The strange thing was that if I want to keep my old number, also on an LG contract, the price was 270,000 won. The price 170,000 won was only for NEW contracts, so I would have to change my number.
That didn't quite make sense (new contract cheaper than loyal customer) so I didn't buy yet.
Anyway, goooood English speaker at Hongdae LG shop. The shop is right behind the KFC.

I have an LG phone and contract and did it myself when I knew very little Korean at TechnoMart. But there were catches. First, and I figured this one beforehand, I had to buy a nice phone (was only shown 200,000 and up phones). The other, which I didn't realize till much later, my phone bills were twice as high as a Koreans becuz of the plan I got scammed on. It was the cheapest one but it was still double what it is now.
I didn't have to pay any deposit. The bills aren't automatically deducted from anywhere (I pay it at the bank like my others). They do offer really good English customer service. You have to ask for an application for the discount card. |

I've had an LG phone for over a year and a half. I've never had bills automatically deducted. For the first 18 months or so I got a text message on my phone saying how much my bill is, along with an account number where I could electronically transfer my money. I found that a little annoying b/c some months they wouldn't send me the text on time. (which led to me missing a payment). So, for the last four months I've had a bill sent to my home. I'm not sure if that's standard procedure or what . . . I just went in to a LG store (in Gwangju Bus Terminal) and told them I had a new address and to please send my bill there. |

I've been with LG for more than 2 years. Their service has been great. They have an English help line, I assume other providers do too. They automatically deduct from my account, no probs. I'm the only foreigner I kno with a phone plan, everyone else pays as they go. I don't know enough foreigners I think. They wanted a deposit 2 years ago but it was under 90,000. |

Please come to my sister in law's store for great service. My wife and I have been setting up LG accounts (for us at ESL cafe and beyond) now for two years. There are no deposits. No price increases for keeping the same telephone number. (This is so common that there is a protocol for keeping your old numbers - regardless of your old phone's service provider) Anything else is a rip off.
One thing that can trip people up when they arrrive at a store is that the banking registration number that you hold at your bank and use for when you set up direct debits or internet banking is sometimes not related to your ARC number. Whenever you go to a store to buy a telephone confirm this number 예금자등록번호 with your bank, then go to the store.
If you wish for a new phone (or second) without any hidden items or objects, or just wish for free advice about the systems, PM me.
We have done some unusual cellphone requests for people who have had trouble with their telecom providers, or like when you have a phone in someone else's name and wish to cancel it, stuff like that. We can fix problems not many others can or will attempt.
My family store is the oldest established store in the Bucheon underground complex. And the biggest. Here to help.
PM me please. |

No deposit. Phone was FREE (just can't get over that fact). Initial plan was for 230 weekday min/ 430 weekend min/ 15W/ 10sec overage charge. 100 free txt messages/ 60W overage per txt. 10 000W internet usage for 3000W (included and required in contract, even tho I never use internet on my phone). This contract was for the first 3 months @ 34 500W/ month. Service charges and txt overages ~12 000W on my first full month's bill (46 000W).
The shop was located somewhere in the Haeundae area, as I remember we went to Ganga for dinner afterwards. Sorry I can't be more specific than that. |
