I was reading this article about Hubo the robot who can ride a segway:

does anyone know where I can go check out this kind of stuff first hand in Seoul?

I just went to the robots and artificial intelligence show today in the Changwon Exhibition Center which is the new global business center for incubating new business development. Unfortunately, today was the last day of the show. It was fascinating. They had an Ever-1 woman robot on stage talking in Korean only and waving her arms around. Most of the Koreans exhibiting spoke English to me, though all descriptions were in Hangul, which made it even more enjoyable having interesting conversations about the exhibits. They showed pics of the new silver HUBO, but no HUBO was present. Korea is looking to get into the manufacturing of robots big time in which they already got allot more going on than America does, but not as much as Japan has going on.

They had all these really interesting industrial robot machines as the show was geared toward business men looking for innovative manufacturing solutions to increase their company profits. One of those large mechanized robot arms can do the work of a 4 man work group with greater speed and accuracy than a 4 man work group could ever do. They can assemble, weld, rivet, and move products around with great speed and accuracy. Very impressive displays of advanced technology.

Despite how polluted Korea is from technology manufacturing business, I am inspired by and admire how industrious Koreans are in creating economic opportunities which helps float everyones boats, including foreign English teachers due to the parents having good paying jobs as result. I wish it was like this in America today in which it once was about 40 to 50 years ago. Korea is very much like 1950's America, but with the most advanced technology. Of course, back then, it was industrious innovating America whose technology was the most advanced at the time. Things like refrigerators, air conditioning, jet planes, military equipment, and big cars were considered state of the art just as Koreas cell phones, computers, and robots are today. I am enjoying Korea for more than the opportunity of saving up money teaching. I hope the Korean economy booms for at least 5 more years in which it looks promising, because this means that teaching English will become even more lucrative.

If anyone knows when and where Asimo and HUBO are on display and where robot and technology exhibitions are being held, please let us know. Thanks.

On the southern coast near Busan, Gimhae, and Masan. A 5 hour bus ride from Seoul. This show only goes once a year though to my understanding.

Anyone know were more technology and robot related events are happening? This one in Changwon was my first find.

Give me a bicycle any day. Faster, simpler, cheaper, greener.

Segways have a maximum speed of only 20km and they cost about five thousand dollars. An utterly gimicky waste of money, energy and resources. In the near future I fully expect to see podgy little rich people rolling their segways down to the fitness centre then spending an hour on a stationary bike. Confused
