Ok, I was looking for a job at a PS in Seoul like crazy. I contacted all sorts of people and I also got all sorts contacting me from an ad I put up. They all got my requirements and my resume. Some got a phone interview. Other than that, they kind of fell off the earth or added me to their spam lists and that's all. NOW I found an ON-IT recruiting Co. and they have 2 interviews to put me through and I want to be with them SOoooo bad. I am very impressed with them. Unfortunately, it took them weeks to reply to me and I had already talked to others. Or maybe they responded to my 2nd application with them . Either way, NOW I read that if the SMOE got your resume once from somebody else, you're disqualified!!! WTF? Is this to reward my dilligence? How do I call the other recruiters off or better yet, contact the SMOE to say that I now have an exclusive relationship with X recruiter so please let me in? Also, nobody has my passport, degree, transcrips, backround note, or Dr.'s note yet. Is this saving me, or is my resume enough to sink me? I will have my transcripts and my Dr. note next week, everything else is done and I've been packed for a month. Obviously, this is assuming I pass the 2 interviews !!! HELP!!! |

I heard the same thing about SMOE and thought what you thought. What a crap rule.
I'd contact your recruiter(s) and find out if it's true, and if so, contact SMOE directly and ask what can be done or if you can be hired. |

| I had submitted my resumes to two recruiters who work for SMOE because one took so long to respond. Nevertheless, I still got an interview with them in a couple of weeks. I did reply to one recruiter and told her I had an interview already, so she did not need to do anything with the resume and application since SMOE already has it. I guess contact the recruiters have just work with one. |

We talked about this on another thread a number of months ago. I spoke directly to the SMOE head in charge and she told me clearly that all applicants will be considered on their merits and not be inelgible if they apply with multiple recruiters.
Recruiters state this to disuade others from doing this and all the overlap it might entail. But rest assured, it is SMOE who has the final say at the interview and it won't be a problem. Only that the first recruiter applied to, will be the one chosen as your "recruiter".
So don't worry. Prepare for the interview and know you'll be judged only on your merits, not the "im" practicalities.

Hey, the same thing just happened to me. I didn't even apply for SMOE through the second agency, I just looked at a job - which I said no to and suddenly I am disqualified to apply for SMOE because the second recruiter put my name through which I didn't ask him to. So I contacted him and he said he did nothing wrong and I contacted the first agency and they basically gave me the cold shoulder. What the ____?
I've decided to call the head office on Monday and if no one will listen to me I will get my husband who is korean to call again.
I did nothing wrong in this situation and have said no to other decent jobs because I was trying to get on with SMOE.
I was set up for an interview that hasn't taken place yet. Should I just got to it anyway despite the fact I was disqualified? What should I do? |

We do not have the contract for SMOE but at the presentation to get the gig, we were told that teachers will be disqualified if they go through multiple recruiters so as soon as we get the resumes we should submit the applications. Seemed like a stupid rule at the time and now that has been confirmed.
SMOE..great jobs, crappy system to get them. |

Yes. SMOE looks at your qualifications, it's the recruiters that say you are disqualified, not SMOE. You interview is with SMOE, right? If it's with a recruiter, you'd better clarify with them. |

You are fine. Go to the interview.
The same thing happened to me last year. I applied with 5 recruiters and they all say something a little different like you are applying for such and such a school and it turns out 3 were for the same SMOE position. 2 of the recruiters called me saying what is going on and I said "I dunno know, you sent the application, I didn't know where it was going".
Anywho, got the job. Not going to sign with them again but... |

Is SMOE worth waiting for? Until September I mean. |

You would start the last week of August for orientation and get paid your salary then. While SMOE is still a Korean organization and has the same organizational and communication problems that most Koreans have, SMOE is better the 90% of the hogwans out there.
If you are worried about summer money, come early and work a summer English camp before you start SMOE. |
