ok... it is a Saturday night and there are like 8 or so people next door... i should say Sunday morning... they've been caterwauling cover tunes for the better part of 3 hours... stomping and hooting... they aren't quite raising hell, but seriously... they've got people playing instruments over there... is it some kind of hippy jam?
Hey guys newsflash... Korean apartments have very little soundproofing... don't invite your friends over and howl and hoot and slaughter Jethro Tull
i am pretty sure they just moved in, perhaps this is a housewarming gone too well and i should just be patient but some people work on Sundays and these people are working a raw nerve with me right now...
if they continue this on other nights what options do i have? can i call the cops and file a noise complaint? it sounds to me as if other tenants in the vicinity are a little peaved as well... many many repeated loud door slams, some wall pounding, etc.
i am afraid that the adjoshi at the desk downstairs will be too afraid to confront them though...
i really really enjoy my apartment because it's generally a residential area with families and they are fairly quiet... now i have a hippy jam band living next door to me...

What would you do if you were back home?
You'd probably tell them to please kindly shut the *beep* up!
AM I right? Am I close? |

No, I'd pound on the walls. Here though it is somewhat different, I dunno... with language not being a barrier... it feels very Seinfeldish... if I pounded on the walls because of the cultural isolation they'd probably actually try to talk to me about it later... I just want them to shut the f*ck up.
I don't want to know them.
I am considering putting a note on the door tomorrow.
I figure it is their first night and judging by the tone of the vocalist they are pretty lit. |

Hmmm... the wall pounding silenced the musicians but now the drunken high-pitched shouts of obnoxious women and lonely men comes through the wall.
Again... guys... do not have friends over to your apartments for parties... it isn't done here. Is it? Koreans don't build apartments for social gatherings they are their for living and sleeping, entertaining is done outside the home... so have a slice of courtesy. |

This is why I prefer the direct approach. I bet they think they are being quiet.
Koreans definitely have parties and make noise but they are quicker to shut up if you ask.
Good luck with your note....wuss |

Man, I better tell my Korean friends to not come over anymore. Who knew they were making such a faux pas?
This is actually the way it works with such thin walls, at least in my apartment. I'm loud - music, guitar, talking - till 3am, my neighbors break glass and make general household repairs till 8am, piano upstairs until noon, and then we break for the afternoon. Then it's obnoxious smells for dinnertime. An occasional cook-off happens about 4am at times too.
At this point I'm libel to call you a teetotalling buzzkill but I don't know you, so I won't. |

I've never dealt with any crap like this in this building, in my last apartment that was all college kids I had to put up with it occassionally but never for 4 to 5 hours after midnight... ridiculous... if they do it again I will call the cops. |

You can slip a letter under the door, that's what we did in the dorms. Ask "nicely." If it continues, I guess you have to talk to the apartment manager. I bought some earplugs. They are 32 decibels, hopefully that's enough for when I get there. What drives me absolutely nuts is people who snore so loud like damn porkers. Most annoying thing in the world. I had them as roommates, I felt like I was gonna die. Never had a night of decent sleep with them.
One time my brother called me from Korea and he had to go because the neighbors were pounding on his walls. He wasn't even talking loud, but I guess the walls are so thin. Do they not even use insulation? |

When I went to Penn State, we had problems like this. Time to crank up the "AC-DC." A little ditty like "Highway to Hell" should clear out the cobwebs. Or you could tape a porno movie scene (just the moaning and groaning) and play that as loudly as possible, over and over. |

Lol, this is bringing those dorm memories. I couldn't sleep because of loud music, noisy parties at 3 in the morning, or someone having sex loud. It was a coed dorm, and lot of us didn't like most of the RA's. Only one of them would actually write them up. The rest were scared of them I guess.
One time my suitemate was complaining about the girl on the other side of the wall. When she was sleeping, she heard loud noises from the other girl, and her wall (where the pillow is near) was moving like she's pressed up all against the bed wall and making my suitemate's side of the wall by her head move also. It happened a lot, not only does she feel her head, wall, vibrate but has to hear really loud moans. I guess they think no one can hear. She thought about recording it and playing it when the other girl's parents came over to visit her. Oh look at what your precious little girl is doing. BUt that seemed a bit harsh.
Then one day I was studying in the hallway, because 3 bedrooms shared a hallway, toilet and a shower. THen I hear her doing the same thing. I was laughing uncontrollably. I guess she was getting revenge.
BUt our walls were so thin, you just bang on the wall really hard where that person's bed or desk should be and they turn the noise down usually right away. My roommate would play really loud techno sometimes, and our neighbors below banged on their ceiling and we can feel our floor vibrate. It sounded like a broom beating against the floor. I still think slipping a note under their door is one of the best options . Slip it under, and knock and run away.
One time, I had the pleasure of calling the campus police on this couple. I woke up from a good sleep at 4am in the morning. I had a test at 8am. I was furious! I waited for 20 minutes for them to stop arguing. THey were literally screaming at each other from the top of their lungs next to my window.
I was like screw this, I'm calling the campus police. My roommate thought I was being a biatch. I mean do you think the whole dorm wants to hear your relationship problems at that time of the night? You should do that over the phone or the internet, seriously.
I was so happy when the cop arrived. I didn't look out my window , but I could hear them. He said he's going to write them a ticket for disturbing the peace if they don't stop. |

Wall pounding? Must be some violent breed of hippies. Although I like some Jethro Tull, I hate other hippy music. The whole banjos, mandolins, acoustic guitars, and bongos going on. I refer to it as hippy-hobo campfire music.
I suppose that I'd either confront the face to face or leave a polite note on someone's door.
Good luck! |

I live in a block of one-room apartment buildings. Last night, in the apartment across from, about 3 meters away, several mildly drunk K college chicks having a party. The window and blinds were open, so while I made a later dinner, I was treated to them practising "my hump". One or two would line up, gyrate to a few bars, break into hysterical giggles, and repeat. They also spent time inspecting other to see just how muich skin they were showing when they were in different positions. Guess they wanted to see how much they were showing the boys. This went on for about half an hour until with great shock, they realized that I was standing in my kitchen, window wide open, lights on, cleaning dishes. Cue hysterical laughter. Cue "talking to each other in broken English now". Cue more hysterical laughter. Unfortunately, the "cue invitation" never came. |
