I must go to the best gym in the world, or at least in Corea. I'm a guy and predominantly do weights and no bugger bothers me whatsoever. Previous places I have attended I have had the misfortune of having similar treatment to the OP, which I generally politely decline. I'll be the first to admit my form is not the best, but I can generally correct it by myself with the aid of a mirror.

At least you don't have groups of people standing around watching you. My gym feels like a stage when I'm in there...with me the sole actor.

At my gym I use all the wieghts to do squats. I have the koreans come and try to do it after me. I have to help them not to be crushed by the weights.

Do they really do that? What is wrong with these people?

They HAVE TO one-up the foreigner in the gym. It's somehow engrained into Korean DNA. On at least 3 occasions I've had to rescue an older guy after he tried to outbench me without a spotter. Rolling Eyes

Did you really have to rescue him?

That used to happen with me too, til the weights started getting up to where they couldn't do even partial reps. And it's not like I'm that strong a guy, it's just that I've been making steady progress for the last year and a half, and they keep doing the same routine again and again with no rhyme or reason.

Sorry to hear about your experience Jadereaux. My gym is pretty enlightened that way. The female trainer there is excellent and many females are doing at least light weights because of her. Women with some muscle are sexy in my opinion. It's a nice change from the previous 2 gyms I went to in Korea.

I suppose I am doing something that most people don't expect too. I am doing Hot Yoga now and am thoroughly enjoying it. I have been doing it for about 2 weeks now. I am the only guy in the any of the classes but I have been treated very well. No one has discouraged me and I have gotten nothing but encouragement. My skin feels great, it's a great workout and I am already noticably more flexible.

The guy had 80 Kilos plus the bar crushing his midsection.

Yah, that's funny cuz it's true!

I'm hardly an Arnold Schwarzenegger, hell, I'm hardly a Jim Belushi, but every time I get off of one of them fancy weight machines, the spindly guy who gets on after me jacks the weight up by a few bars and proceeds to quickly pump a half dozen times. The he sits there for about five minutes before moving off to go look at himself in the mirror.

That having been said, I do appreciate the gym staff coming along and showing me how to use the machines without hurting myself.

Maybe you should wear less tight gym shorts?
