I've had my hair cut twice in Korea now, and each time it turned out, despite having a translator, like a Korean hairstyle. It's not that I don't like Korean hairstyles, just not on me. I'm a honkey and I want my hair cut as such.

So, do you know of any hair salons that could cut a Caucasian guy's hair properly? Perhaps in Itaewon?

Thaaaanks.

My husband had the same problem. He finally tried a salon at Coex, in the bottom level of the Intercontinental (not in the shopping mall part, but in the hotel part, right before you enter the shopping mall, on the end near the aquarium).

He got a great haircut, they knew exactly how to deal with his thick, curly hair. The stylist was Korean, but is accustomed to foreign hair because of hotel clientele.

Just the cut, no shampoo/massage/styling, was 20,000 won, not bad.

You could try Michel at the Green Turtle in Itaewon. It is on the corner above Coffee and Bean. He speaks decent English and will always ask what you want done.
I have seen him cut lots of Western men's hair.

I use the comb and put it a little over my ear and tell them to leave it "this" long on the sides. Still, they will keep cutting away at the sides until finally I just put my hands over the sides of my head and tell them "No more off the sides." They do love that shaved sides look.

Buy a razor kit and do it yourself. It's actually pretty easy.

Are they using clippers? I had them stop using clippers on me, sticking to scissors only, and that got the job done. You put clippers in a Korean barber's hands, you're definitely gonna end up with the triple layer disaster.

Very easy. I've been cutting my own hair for nearly 3 years now. I guess it depends on the style you want...

I've been cutting my hair for 12 years. I like to keep my hair fairly short and it only takes about 20 minutes to cut, get a small fade and trim the back of my neck

Try to find a salon that has a book of photos of men's haircuts. Then you can point out the one you want. The stylist will probably still need some direction from you, but this has worked for me.

If you got your haircut in some trendy place such as Hongdae or Apgujeong you would have a much better chance to succeed... NEVER EVER go to those small hairshops around not so famous areas, its 100% failure rate.
