Hi folks,

Not sure if this made it onto the Oregon Poll over on the off-topic board, but here's a few tidbits on Oregon:

*First state in USA w/bottle return bill, ie, money for returned cans/bottle.

*Home of Harry Holt, who adopted 8 kids during Korean War and opened door for international adoption.

*Portland, Oregon Trail Blazers first NBA team w/a Korean player, Ha.

*Arguably most beautiful coast in USA. Certainly the cleanest.

*Home of 2008 Olympic Track and Field trials.

*Sports venues at U. of Oregon, Autzen Stadium and Mac Court, rank in top 10 in USA for atmosphere. Fans literally shake the backboards at Mac Court.

*Wes Mallard, half-Korean, played football for UO Ducks and is now in NFL (w Tampa?)

*Yes, home of Tonya Harding, Danny Glover, and Bob Packwood.
But Oregon Senator Wayne Morse, the Tiger of the Senate, voted against the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (started Vietnam War)

*47 state parks and waysides on an absolutely exquiste lush green coastline.

*Home of lots of 1960s hippies in Eugene, Ashland (home of world class Shakespeare Festival) and Portland.

*1977 Portland Blazers NBA champs, led by Bill Walton, the big red head Grateful Dead Fan.

*Home of late, great runner Steve Prefontaine, who remains, 30 years after his tragic death, the most popular athlete in state history. A rock star athlete - charismatic, controversial w/the heart of a Lion. The founding spirit of NIKE, Oregon's only Fortune 500 company.

Hope that wasn't too boring!

I went to the coast to where those sea lions are. I could smell poop a mile away. Portland is kind of homely. You need to learn to like looking at it.

YOU KNOW YOU LIVE IN OREGON IF...

* You believe the weather man.

* You throw an aluminum can in the trash and feel guilty.

* You use the words 'sun breaks' and know what it means.

* You know more than 10 words to describe a cup of coffee.

* You complain about Californians as you sell your house to one for twice as much as you originally paid.

* You never go camping without water-proof matches and ponchos.

* You stand on a deserted street corner in the rain waiting for the light to change (if there even is a light).

* You know more people who own boats than air conditioners.

* You obey all traffic laws except keep right and left passing.

* You only honk your horn if collision is imminent and never for anything else.

* You consider swimming an indoor sport.

* You consider something a "hill" (not a mountain) if it doesn't have snow on it or has not recently erupted, regardless of its altitude.

* You can't tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai food.

* In the winter, you go to work in the dark, come home in the dark, and only have an 8 hour day.

* You've ever tasted Pace extra mild picante sauce.

* You feel overdressed wearing a suit to a really nice restaurant.

* You consider "etiquette" a foreign word.

* You personally know someone from California.

* You resent being called a weirdo.

* You drool at the world's worst spaghetti sauce.

* You find a wallet with $500 and give it back to the owner.

* You used to live somewhere else but won't admit it publicly.

* You've ever ordered a half caff/decaf, nonfat mocha grande with sugar-free cranberry whip (or you know what it is).

* The bride and groom registered at REI. (sport supply store)

* You are amazed at an accurate weather forecast.

* If someone ran your car off the highway, you might drown.

* You'd be miffed if the store was out of your favorite brand of water.

* Every day is casual Friday.

If I had to live any state, it would have to be Colorado.

Two more ways to know you're from Oregon:

You post useless info about Oregon on Korean discussion boards.

You think the best way to create jobs is to forbid people from pumping their own gas.

Oregon has some world class wines - some of the Pinot Noir there is as expensive as the Grand Cru Burgundies, and they win major awards.

That's about the only thing that interests me about the place...

You know you are from Oregon when:

You are proud of the continual ransacking and destruction the downtown Portland business area. Then complain why no tourists or new businesses are coming to the city.

You cheer when good job making companies pack up and move to another state because of high taxes.

Or, you know you're from Oregon when you wish people would not post such things about Oregon so that we stop getting new residents.

Smile

And you know you're from Oregon when you really love not having to pump your own gas. It doesn't affect the gas prices that much, and you never have to get out of your car. It's beautiful.

Most places you don't have to get out and pump your gas. You just pull up to the full service area, pay 10 to 20 cents more per gallon, and thank your lucky stars you didn't have to get out of your car. And when I was in Oregon, I still had to get out of the car because the gas pumper guy just gave me a bill that I had to pay inside at the register. Soooo efficient.
