If your employer says it is all right to work at a second place part-time, is it still necessary to go to immigration (or Ministry of Labor)? The employer says it is not necessary to complete any paperwork at immigration. My friend seems to think it is all right. However, it seems that a teacher must go to immigration to get approval, right?

Check EFL Law but I think it's the schools job to inform immigration - doesn't mean the teacher won't get into trouble though.
Probably best to avoid this kind of malarkey, I reckon.
How many people work in 2+ places but get paid by one employer?

Immigration must approve any work outside of the location listed on your id card. THat includes other branches of the same business. |

kimcheeking,
Thank you. I should tell my friend.
Why do not university personnel seem to know this fact? Why don't they check if my friend asks about the immigration rule? |

I'm one of those. I did tell the boss about it, but whether she actually did what she was supposed to do when she took my arc off me to go down to immigration I will never know. Another teacher witnessed the conversation which we have written down and signed if I ever get in trouble. I hate that I'm reliant on someone to orgaize my paperwork who could probably not organise a biss up in a prewery.

crazylemongirl, you could go to immigration yourself and apply for the permission as long as you can get a contract/letter from the other school.
The witness letter won't stop you from getting into trouble should immigration come calling.. |

Thank you to your replies.
I think my friend will opt out of the second place's part-time job. I think his employer will let him. However, another instructor will probably get asked (or told) to teach at the second place. Should a high quality university "encourage" instructors to work part-time at a second place (possibly illegally)? Does this happen to some university instructors at other universities in Seoul? |
