Who is right??
If my pay is usually on the 30th and I finish my contract on the 8th- when should I get paid my severance, housing deposit and final month's pay? My school is trying to tell me I need to wait a little longer than usual- that I should have all the money by July. I was expecting the depost and the pay for this month would be in my account by Friday, 8th. I assumed that the severance could take a little bit longer- maybe a week?!...Am I wrong to think I am being screwed????! |

Any / EVERY reputable school / employer (including everyone I have ever worked for in Korea) will pay out everything on the last or 2nd last day of your contract.
They can call the utility companies and confirm the amount of any outstanding bills, deduct them from your pay /deposit and give you the rest at the end of your contract.
You are getting messed with and will probably get screwed. |

If I was told that, I would demand that everything I'm owed is placed into my hands the day after my contract has ended, no later. |

What does your contract say?
What is their standard policy?
How have they handled other teachers who left before you?
The answers to those questions will tell you what to expect. |

Do you get paid on the 30th every month for work done from the 8th of one month to the 8th of the next month?
Or did you start your contract on the eight of July last year and were continuously paid on the 30th? If so, they should pay you for your month on the 30th then pay you the rest (July 1st to 8th plus severence). They should also extend your visa for a few days so you can get all your stuff together.
When does your flight leave?
Anyway, I don't see why they can't give you everything earlier. |

They just want to be assholes for your faithful one year service and maybe screw you out of your hard earned money. It's the Korean way.
Demand and get your pay on or before the contract end date. Try referring them to the Ianilsan's thread. |

It is a public school and they are only a year old. I am their first foreign teacher. I have had SO many problems...
I started part way through a month- so my contract says that I should be paid on the 11th. They then changed it to the 25th (verbal agreement) and then said it was easier for the acountants to pay me at the end of the month- whichever date that may be. So I have one signed for date and two 'overriding' verbal argreements.
According to my contract- the housing deposit should be paid back before the end of my contract. However, the contrat says- pay for part of a month and the severance, 'shall be paid'- but there is no specific time...
(I am not a newbie and they know I am returning after my contract finishes.) |

Well then they should get their acts together and pay you. |

Got paid for part of the month then carried on normal pay dates of the 25th. |
