Hey everyone!
I'm coming to Korea soon to look for a job and trying to narrow it down to a few cities to choose from. I appreciate any suggestions that fit the following criteria:
-pretty fun to party
-access to nature
-places to jog and workout
-friendly women
-scenery and/or charm
Least air pollution city that fits the above would be nice! I'm coming from Los Angeles (yeah I know our air sucks).
Thanks! |

Wanting to party: Seoul.
Access to nature: Seoul, probably 30 min. to 1 hour subway ride to mountains.
Places to jog and workout: Seoul.
Friendly women: Seoul (more will speaka da Englishee than other cities).
Scenery/Charm: Not Seoul, it's a big sea of concrete buildings, but has palaces, temples and some architecture mixed in.
Least Pollution: Not Seoul, but compared to LA, it's decent. |

Seoul if you mean twentysomething foreigner nightclubs.
Seoul has the least amount of options nearby but ironically is well situated due to excellent public transportation to just about everywhere in Korea, even express buses to the south coast that allow you to get up after dawn in Seoul and still get to Namhae before noon. To take advantage of this quick-exit weekend option you'd need to be pretty central, not in the many satellite suburb cities of Gyeonggido.

Running outside? Seoul not best because the air pollution is worse than you'd think. It is seriously chocking to those of us living in much fresher air areas.

Hot and miss depending on neighbourhood of which city.

ALL things considered, I think Busan is for you!
Plus... coming from LA you'd appreciate a coastal city with milder, almost snowless winters. |

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards Busan but also wanted some others' opinions. Are there any jogging paths in Busan? How are the women? |

Most of Korea looks the same to me, but Seoul is the center of Korean culture, arts, business, and entertainment which makes it the #1 place to go. If I was to choose again where I went, I would pick a satellite city of Seoul on the stretches of one of the subway lines. It's boring being far away from Seoul where people just stare at you and act indifferent out of feeling discomfort of your presence. If you are coming to appreciate culture, arts, and people, then Seoul is the only place I would recommend, but if you are coming to simply save money in a boring way, then go to a smaller city such as Changwon far outside of Seoul. I feel you could still save money in or near Seoul if you avoid drinking in bars to get drunk and throwing your money around to impress women. |
