Hello there,

Does anyone know where I can buy a short wave radio? I've heard that they sell them in Yongsan but have no idea where to start. Any help would be great.

Most of the comsumer end shortwaves sold in electronics markets won't be worth the powder to blow them to ell...

Find a ham radio store in your area and get a good ICOM R9000 or some similar offering from Yaesu or Kenwood. If you were in Daegu I could direct you to a little hole in the wall ham store not far from Daegu Station that has good ones.

Also remember that the antenna is key. Many of these places in Yongsan might have the low end radios but don't sell antennas (they assume, because they don't really understand radio, that the included extension antenna will be fine. Unfortunately because of the amount of above ground electrical lines in this country, you won't get squat for reception. A ham radio store can sell you a good Inverted V or some similar style of wire antenna for your radio.

If you are coming to Daegu let me know and I will tell you how to get to the HAM store I am aware of.

I've got oneI don't use anymore. PM me. Listening to N/Korea in Eng. or Spanish, Cuba, Iran etc. is interesting. China has a Sunday 'history' program(me). Sometimes they talk about the "Korean" invasions.

I've heard that you can download (For free) Ham radio software which is supposed to act in the same manner. T/F?

you probably won't see them out on display since they may or may not still be considered illegal, so just ask for

and here:

and a ton on gmarket which are mid to higher end ones
(just input the korean in the search)

had my 9 band fm/mw/sw icf-400II sony serviced here a few times.

still bringing in the dprk loud and clear, late at night, when no one is around Wink Wink
