I walked past a LG store at the Susaek station (line 6 Itaewon line) and they had a sale. Big display out front. Thats supposed to be good deal. I want one now or perhaps 2 now.

There's a reason they're cheap...they have issues. Scroll down, there's a thread about large LG flat screens here.

TY If it matters, they are X Canvas TV's. Are they both made by LG?

Are TVs very much different from monitors? I would buy a Samsung screen monitor over an LG one every time! Very Happy

One persons story about how they had a problem with their tv, is just that. Its one persons story. I've talked to many korean people about tvs and believe it or not many of them would take an LG over a Samsung any day. I'd take either if some one was giving them away. We have a bunch of LG LCDs and some PDPs where I work and all of them are fine. Seems at that price those aren't the newest models, maybe even ones that are only SD and not true HD (still that seems like a pretty good price for either).

Just some food for thought LG makes alot of the pannels that go in Sony LCD TVs (then again so does Samsung depending on the model)

LG products are good, little over priced but still pretty good. I wanted something a little bigger and I've got an LG projector and its awsome.

i agree with the above poster. this should not an argument about samsung vs. LG. for all we know.. samsung could give exactly the same after service as LG here. if the issues that faced the owner of that particular LG tv was more frequent, id doubt they would be as big and international as they are today.

Wow, 700,000 Won for a big LCD. You would not get that 42 inch LCD for $700 US in America, try like $4000! What would it cost to send that puppy overseas from Korea? I always wanted to have a giant computer monitor/video screen on my wall and design my place in futuristic style like on a spaceship. Smile

i heard it was like a grand for a pallet in a container on the slow boat. plus.. you have to add taxes. it might not be worth it for a tv that is surpassed by all sorts of newer ones with improved HD technology and resolution.

I would be very skeptical about that price. There has to be something wrong with it. Maybe it's a return?

was with my brother in the states over christmas and he got a 42inch 1080i LCD tv for 800 bucks. Great tv too, LCD is so much better than other HD's.

You have no idea what you are talking about. LCD and plasma tvs are cheaper in the usa than here. Pretty much all home electronics are cheaper back in the states.

Except that "one person's story" you are referring to happens to be my story.

I am on my 3rd LG XCanvas TV in 3 months. First 2 LCDs had clouds in the black background. 3rd TV is a PDP, and it buzzed and couldn't do 1080i properly from the factory.

1 person's story.... but 3 TVs owned by that one person had problems.

Buyer beware, and if you ever have a problem, LG's service techs will promptly arrive at your door, look at your TV, and promptly tell you , "no problem... within specification!"

That is what they've done (and are apparently trained to do). It wasn't until I threatened customer service with bad online reviews that they more-or-less forced the tech guy to do something about the problems. They still are. Next week, they're finally changing out the bad 1080i circuit board to see if that fixes it.

By the way, the reason that TV is so cheap is because it's probably 1024x768 resolution... old technology on blowout. Trust me... if you ever plan on playing HD content, you want 1366x768 at a minimum.

Actually, Vizio LCD TVs are around that price in the USA. Prices have really dropped.

As a general rule, LCD and PDP sets are more expensive here, and there are less to choose from, because Japanese models are hit with very high import taxes. Korean prices are often higher here for the same product you can get in the USA.

I went to the store in question and there was an xcanvas 42 inch displayed in the window for 690,000. I asked why so cheap. The sales guy said the tv was actually 1.4 million but if you had a buttload of hyuandai card points to redeem, you could get it for the 690,000. Im not sure which points card he was talking about. Anyway that leaves us whiteys out of the loop.

I knew there had to be a catch...
