I have a Korean friend who is a woman (not gf). Sometimes, if she and another woman I know are together and the other woman says, "look at him. He's kinda cute," the K woman says, "ohhh no, I dont like him, he's GREAZZY!" I, of course, glance at the guy and it always just looks like a guy. But even though there are lots of different guys who get called greazzy, no one guy seems like any other guy who get called greazy. What IS that?

sometimes, they also substitute greasy with butter. This means 'nausiating'. So, if a girl sees a guy and says he is greasy, what she really means is:

He nausiates me.

One of the textbooks I use has a picture of a real greasy looking guy, who is a recurring character. All of the other characters have names, but my students alternate between calling this particular guy "greasy guy" "butter guy," and "oily man."

Decent synonyms for the Koran "butter" are "smarmy" or "lubricious" (but that one's a bit fancy heh).

I still think "greasy" is totally better though.

Where I'm from, we call them 'Chachis.' It can also be an adjective, as in 'he is the Chachiest dude you will ever meet.'

That's interesting. I showed my Korean gf some of your responses to other posts, and that is the term that she used to describe you. Razz

I haven't heard 'greazy' used here. But I have heard 'oily' used before, as in, "He's an oily guy" (students said that about Leo DiCaprio). In Korean, it's pronounced "nuhkee". I think it's more like 'cheesy' for us.

So maybe the women are calling those guys cheesy for some reason or another.

Yeah, what's funny is how guys that, to me look pretty much normal except maybe just boring or plain, all get called greasy. Its like the ultimate cut down. And actually, there some guys who actually seem more like dirty or unhygenic who do NOT get called greasy... they dont get called anything because they're totally out of the picture... I am kinda thinking "greazzy" doesnt actually mean "dirty" like you would think... it always appears to mean, "could be in my market for dating but not because Im not attracted to him"...

And "Bailsibub" is a sock (among many) for MissSeoul, so...he probably digs it.

In terms of the meaning, 느끼하다 applies to greasy food (to be greasy) but can also be used to describe people.

This is according to my Korean teacher, who (obviously) speaks it fluently.
