It was a great rip..

Paris is always an easy target, but with her actually being there and reacting.. that made it brilliant..

If she can't take those jokes in good humour, you will never see the Paris Hilton Roast on Comedy Central. Too bad.

So Sarah Silverman's act is to be a total b*tch??

Have a go, sure, but I think being funny would help someone who wants to be a standup comedienne.

She got laughs from what I saw...

She did. fart and poop jokes would get laughs too. The level of humor there was about that high.

George Carlin does fart jokes, and many consider him to be the best stand there has every been, and if not, then definitely second behind Richard Pryor.

With many comediennes, their fan base tends to share their politics or stance on minority issues

Same with male comics, so that is hardly worth stating.

John Belushi knew that women are just not funny. Ask Jane Curtin or Lorraine newman.

A bit ironic that Silverman picks on the false and untalented celebrity of Paris Hilton yet is fuelling that fame by using her in her act.

I actually think it is very tacky to laugh at other's expense - whether they deserve it or not.

Bah, she wants the attention. She's famous for being famous...and those pornos, which would have never been sold had she not signed on their release (you gotta wonder when and why they were made).

I have to agree with that colossal comic genius, arbiter of good taste, and dangerous progressive, Jerry Lewis, when he says female comics aren't funny, often make him uncomfortable, and there aren't any working today who are any good. (the few he likes are all retired or dead)

Hmmm...are you just talking about stand-up comics, or comedy actors as well?

Me? I was just going along with Jerry there, as I'm no serious judge of current female comic talent. At all. However, I do know precisely who Jerry is talking about -- American comediennes of yesteryear (Gracie Allen, Fanny Brice, Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, Phyllis Diller, etc.) -- as being those he likes but who are either retired or dead. As an American, his frame of reference is limited by language and geopgraphy, and so there will be female comics and comedic actresses in other parts of the world who totallly totally rock, dude. Though I find it hard to envision an Iranian Ellen DeGeneres, or an Uzbeki Roseanne Barr, or a Chinese Whoopi Goldberg. But you get the idea. And also, Jerry's an old, old man, and he's a product of his generation. As we all are. I personally enjoy many comic actresses. Stand-up? I guess I've got to see more to judge.
