I just came from the States and have some cash, but I'm reluctant to change it and put it in a bank because I don't know if the value of the won is going up or down. Anyone have some insight on this? Should I change my money now, or hold onto it? Thanks.

It's been fluctuating between 925 and 935 for the last couple of months. If you need cash, you have to exchange it. There's no big difference in the amounts if you're talking about a few hundred dollars.

Recently the dollar has been showing a little strength but in the longer term there is a good chance it will continue to decrease. Korea is looking for ways to reduce the strength of the won. In the end no one really knows but Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have been short the dollar for a long time.

If you're going to be keeping it in the bank for a while, as in years, I would try to find a bank that has ruble or Singapore dollar foreign currency accounts.

You'll probably earn more here than you'll spend and won't need to exchange it for won. The US dollar definitely doesn't have any upside potential, but exchanging it for won is like swapping a donkey for a mule. Plus, you'll have to pay the usual fees for the exchange.

For all the Canadians out there, and I know there's a bunch of you here.

Don't feel left out because the CAD is so strong to the USD these days (94 cents) and it manifests in the won vs cad.

Save your money and wait until the Canadian dollar gets a little weaker to wire it home.
