While I don't disagree on the rudeness level here, I don't think Koreans are the rudest, I've met.

The rudeness from anyone I've ever met from Somalia, Pakistan, and any former Soviet republic makes Koreans look like the politest people on earth.

So, do you think the Koreans are the rudest? If not who?

Internet users don't count... in this case.

I think that Koreans can sometimes be rude but i would not put them into the position of rudest I have ever had the priviledge of meeting.

I really couldn't name a nationality that comes across as the rudest because for each country I can think of, I can think of rude people and very nice people.

I therefore abstain. (woops, it isn't a vote anyway Embarassed Laughing )

Largely due to cultural differences we perceive others to be rude in daily interactions. However, Korea is the only place I have been to where people go out of their way to make rude / racist / insulting comments for no other reason than it gives them pleasure to do so.

Back when I worked the hagwon circuit, I had one student in an 8pm class who hadn't shown up for one day all month (December). Then comes Dec 31st (yes, I was required to work New Year's Eve that year), and none of the reguler students showed up... but absent boy did. Why? Because he didn't want me to have a free night and be able to leave early for whatever party I planned on attending. Talk about "no other reason than it gives them pleasure to do so".... what a tool.

Israelis. Astonishingly brusque, with big chips on their shoulders.

Most korean rudeness is actually acceptable in their culture, it just translates as rude when compared to ours.

For rudeness I'd put Morrocans, Italians, Tunisians, French all up there too.

I didn't find the French at all rude (except for one tool on the bus from CDG)

I think some Koreans can be a bit too pushy at times. Rude? Maybe, but in a sentimental way that fondly reminds me of a Klingon. Cool

I think anyone has the potential of being rude given the right circumstance.

Is is not acceptable in korean culture....koreans hate it also when koreans do it to them. But, they don't have the guts to stand up for themselves and put someone in their place.
We have rudeness all over...it's the fault of all of us for allowing it to happen.

One woman came from nowhere to cut in front of me on the subway. I told her she was rude, the guy/husband she was with told me I shouldn't say what I did. Rolling Eyes

That's typical rudeness Rolling Eyes , but you were actually kinda nice to her I think. In NZ I would probably mutter under my breath "what a Bytchh" or "a$$hole" or something like that. The person pretty soon gets the message and you don't have to worry about confronting them in anyway.

So you were actually kinda nice. Maybe Korean culture has it that you just shouldn't talk to a stranger like that? maybe that was what he mean't? Maybe in Korean culture your response was worse than her initial rudeness?

Justathought...
