Over the years, many have asked me about where to get their acoustic guitars repaired in the Seoul area? I've finally decided to put down a review of a few good places in and around Seoul.

1. MD (Metal Driver) Guitar Custom Shop

Steve Kim is a man with a mission. It might be a workaholic one, but this guy does great work. Work is his life and his shop is seldom closed. (I'm constantly telling him to take a vacation. He just ignores me.) He is a professional and does quality work! We pay for that quality. He was trained and worked in the USA and the prices he charges are comparable to stateside prices. Keep in mind, once you become a regular, he will shave the price off a little for you here and there. He has a sense of Jeong (heart) and truly loves his customers and certainly strives for excellence. Steve speaks very good English and is an actual luthier (guitar maker). So if your instrument has strings on it, chances are that Steve can fix it.

To get to MD Guitar shop, simply go out Hongik University Station Exit #4, hang the first right and then cross the street. It's on the 2nd floor. If you go between 10:30AM & 9pm ~ chances are they'll be open. On Sundays & holidays, they open around 1 pm until 9pm.

2.G-CAT

Mr. Myung-gon Gim
Mr. Hea-rim Gim

If you love cats, then you're going to love this place! There are cats everywhere!! They're very beautiful! The shop is fairly homey. They do repairs and do decent work. He-rim speaks pretty good English. They have a nice repair shop. Very kind people, but don't ever expect any discounts. Wink

To get there, go out Exit #1 of Sangsu station (Line 6) and walk a little down the road. Look for the felines in the window. If you miss your cat, it's a nice place to go and play!

3. Mr. Won @ Nakwon arcade. A very kind person. Does a pretty good job and the price is very decent! His English isn't that good, but you can usually communicate decently with him. His two assistants are kind and one of them speaks passable English.

4. Mr. Jeong @ Nakwon might not do too much repair work, but he is a great guy to connect with at Nakwon. A very kind and affable guy. He really likes people and will treat you like an individual. (Was he Buddha in his past life??) He speaks excellent English and will quote you a very nice price for guitar accessories. In addition, if you need anything in Nakwon, he'll gladly point you to the right shop. The guy is a great resource for information about everything musical. Tel him that I sent ya!
