|
|
Is there anything SIMILAR to live NASCAR and/or NHRA racing over here? Where? No, I'm not talking about those puny little 4-cylinder economy cars they race on the short tracks here.
I could get the NASCAR races on cable in SE Asia, but haven't been able to find them on TV here in Korea. Anybody know if these races are available on any satellite or internet TV channels? |

Hogwonguy,
Get your facts straight. Yes, NASCAR originates in the southeastern part of the USA, but has international offices in Mexico and Canada. Furthermore, NASCAR races have been held in Australia and Asia. It has regional offices in many parts of America, and races are held in many, many states outside of the south.
NASCAR racing is the second most popular pro sport in the USA, in terms of TV ratings (following NFL football) and is viewed on TV in more than 150 countries around the world. It holds 17 of 20 top attended sports events in the USA.
Its 175 million fans are considered the most brand loyal fans in ALL sports. In fact, Fortune 500 companies sponsor NASCAR teams more than any other sport. What does that tell you?
Mention ten current NASCAR drivers names and ten current Formula One drivers names and see who is most recognized in the states.
Its not that I have anything against F1 racing, but just that I could never really relate to it. It always seemed so foreign, and such a rich mans sport to boot. Also, it doesn't have the interesting background that NASCAR does (hauling moonshine in Appalachia). |

Any activity in which guys & girls sit in cars and drive in circles is not a sport. |

Oh, c'mon, you don't need to justify NASCAR. It's popular in America, that's the only place it needs to be popular. If the rest of the world needs something that is mind numbingly slow-paced, they have soccer and cricket. |
