I saw an interesting ad on Korean Cable TV last night for the show 'Pandora's Box'

They generally talk about the seedier things life, and on the next show
they are talking about foreign English teachers in Korea.

First screening will be on Saturday at midnight with repeats on Monday at 2pm and midnight, Thursday at 11pm etc.

Seems to be the usual thing about foreigners picking up Korean girls and there was a reference to STDs

Should make for some sensationalist, misinformed viewing!

We may chase girls, but so does every other human male on the planet. 1/4 of us may have an STD, but so does every other human on the planet. At least we are educated enough to wear protection and didn't grow up afraid of birth control. At least we are outraged when a man hits a woman. At least we listen to our women and work to please them sexually instead of being selfish in bed.

I hear that some people don't mind Koreans thinking of foreigners as little more than disease ridden perverts.

Why do we get so pissed off when Koreans stereotype about foreigners, when we are always so quick to stereotype them?

Not to mention, domestic abuse and sexual disatisfaction also occur in the western world, despite what us "enlightened" foreigners seem to believe.

Because only a very small amount of people peruse this site, and the effect our stereotypes/complaints/rants have on the general population is minute.

These kinds of repeated broadcasts have potential audiences of millions, and affect the attitudes of people we interact with everyday.

Its called the double standard. Us "enlightened" foreigners use it because we ARE better than everyone else. <sarcasm>

GAWD ARE YOU EVEN A FOREIGNER? or another of the growing number of Koreans who somehow slip onto these boards for no good reason.

Foreigners in Korea make up less than 1% of people here and ESL teachers a tiny fraction of that. We should be entitled to have discussions on our own board, as native English-speaking teachers (including Gyopo teachers of course) without the continual digs of Korean Koreans. This is our refuge. To nonteaching Koreans here to just harp... get lost!

You guys are worrying about nothing.

Even if there's a backlash from the show, some G.I. in Uijeongbu is going to stab or rape or steal a bus, and we'll be forgotten.

It is the natural way of things here in ol' Joseon.

Yeah, yeah, just like the Korean who recently convicted of raping another foreign student in a toilet in Brisbane http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/news/queensland/woman-raped-in-queen-st-mall-toilet-block/2007/05/16/1178995209467.html

He reasoned with her that she would sleep with Australian guys so why not him. Somehow that wasn't a national incident though.

Koreans think we are fools because of nutcases like Isaac Durst and other 40 year old recluse we have running free accross the peninsula. Lest we forget the 20 something uni grads in a constant hangover who would bang the convenience store ajumma in a heartbeat, and probably have. Lest we forget the ugly white chicks with a chip on their shoulder who cry rape and harassment when a korean dude says hi to them.
There have been good teachers in Korea, but most of them have moved onto real jobs.

the thing that shows just how blind people are in this thread is that rather than saying that this show is likely to be wrong, they attack those that speak out against it.

Doesn't matter what is getting said about koreans etc, this show will almost certainly be inaccurate and malignant. THAT is the issue.

I'm sure they have good reason not to mind, because nothing ever really comes of it anyway. Unless they have really thin skin.
