Wow! This poll has surprised me. I was expecting Italian to take 2nd place. I didn't know that people would rather have thai curry over pizza or lasanga.

It's gotta be Thai food. And I mean real Thai food. Not the tasteless rubbish that's served up in tourist hangouts. That stuff looks like Thai, smells a bit like Thai, but has not taste at all. Trouble is, you're never gonna get to eat the real Thai food unless you're with a local. They know the best back street restaurants and stalls - and they can ask for proper Thai food - so you won't be served up the tasteless imitation.

What could be more sublime that sitting at an outside table - crazy traffic roaring by, a guy with an elephant in the distance, everyone, AND I MEAN EVERYONE smiling their faces off - and eating steaming hot plates of delicious Issan food while you look into her beautiful eyes. Ohhhhhh, Thailand.

Indian, hands down. Nothing else even comes close. It's a shame you can't get decent Indian food anywhere in Korea (that I'm aware of).

I haven't been to India or Singapore, so I can't compare to them, but the Indian food I've had from the Nepalese restaurants 'Namaste' and 'Everest' near Dongdaemun, has been pretty good and not expensive.

I have eaten at those restaurants in Dongdaemun. They're good for the price. but if you want something truly delicious and still reasonable, you ought to try Wazwan in Itaewon. Other customers there have told me that it's the best Indian restaurant in Korea or even perhaps North-east Asia.

I like the atmosphere. It's like entering a quaint homey Indian restaurant. They have excellent nan bread and I personally love the Butter Chicken curry. They have a lot of excellent vegetarian dishes as well. Check it out.

Go out exit 3 of Itaewon station. Walk in the direction of Starbucks. Turn right at the corner. Pass the Foreign Food supermarket and What The Book bookstore on the left, then you turn left. Walk about two short blocks, pass the mosque and you'll see Wazwan.

Ukrianian- When made right by a baba, or similar it can't be beat!

cabbage rolls, red beet soup, omg so good... but since I like some spice with my meal I choose nearby

#5 Hungarian - hot paprika in pork sausage, chicken stew with dumplings, paprikash, made by a magyar it is incredibly tasty.

Thai- So many good choices.
No difference of opinion here. Love it

#4 Thai - I am a fan of spicy soups and nobody does it better.

Lebanese- Selection, and a little French influence.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my good friend's Lebanese cooking and have been very happy the half dozen times I went to such a restaurant in Montreal. Middle eastern cuisine is good as something different but ain't in my top-5, would quickly get tired of it if I had to eat it more than twice a month.

#3 Indian - the variety, the curries, the bread, i often have trouble deciding what to get and have never been disappointed

demaratus wrote:
#2 Italian- Goodness all around!

Lasagna - made by a good Italian cook - is my favorite dish in the world.

#2 Italian - I have seriously considered looking for an Italian woman to marry even though I cook alright. The possibilities!

Vietnamese- Traditionally brilliant!

Again, I agree it's good. But I much prefer Korean food to Vietnamese and yet neither make the cut though both would be in my top-10.

#1 Greek - grilled, oven-baked, meats, soups, salad, seafood, toasted bread, dip, cheese and veggie pies, the variety and joy! I could live on Greek food and be in bliss. Some of the sexiest words possible are: tzaziki, spanakopita, mousaka, souvlaki... baklava!

Another good Indian restaurant is the newly opened Taj Palace in Itaewon.
This restaurant is a new upscale Indian restaurant from the same people who created Wazwan.

The food doesn't seem all that different in taste and quality, but there are different menu selections. The owner is planning to start a buffet soon. I can't wait to try it.

I would recommend the Indian food lovers on Dave's to try both of these restaurants. I like both, but there's something about the homey atmosphere of Wazwan that I prefer. Both restaurants have excellent mouth-watering food though. Bon apetite!

Taj Palace is on "the hill" on the right hand side of the street on the 2nd floor. You can get there by exiting subway exit #3 of Itaewon station. Walk past Starbucks to the corner and turn right. Walk up the hill for 1 -2 minutes. It's on the right 2nd floor.

To get to Wazwan, continue up the hill passing the Foreign Food Supermarket, then turn left. Walk about 3 short blocks and past the mosque. You'll find it on the left.

You are right on both accounts....in fact, they are owned by the same people. They were doing so well in the old place that they decided to open up the newer one down the hill.

No more trekking all the way to Wazwan if you don't want to...although the Taj Palace's prices are slightly steeper.

Great people, great food.

For those of you who love Mexican food, you should really check out Taco Amigo down the street from Gecko's. I ate there on Wednesday and it was the best meal and dining experience I have had in a long time.

the thing I love most about this thread is how Spain isn't even on the list...I taught there for over 2 years and those darn students acted like their food was known all over the world......Haahhh...don't get me wrong some of it was great! Especially in Galicia....but any people who think that they can put one stip of jamon on a dry piece of bread and call it a meal are just plain WRONG......
